What you’ll do:
SUMMARY:
The Traffic Team Lead is responsible for executing daily yard and chassis movement priorities as established by the Dispatcher and Materials Leadership. This role provides boots-on-the-ground leadership within the yard, ensuring safe, efficient execution of movements, rapid issue resolution, and consistent operational discipline.
The Team Lead serves as the primary field mentor to Drivers and Lot Attendants, reinforcing safety standards, promoting skill development, and maintaining yard readiness to support changing production demands.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Execute daily movement priorities as communicated by the Dispatcher to ensure timely chassis positioning and carrier readiness
Provide direct, real-time work direction to Drivers and Lot Attendants to maintain safe and efficient yard flow
Manage and execute regular chassis exercises to reduce aging inventory, relieve congestion, and restore optimal yard capacity in coordination with the Dispatcher and Leadership
Conduct routine yard inventories to verify unit location accuracy and support system reconciliation
Perform basic triage on inbound or aging chassis to identify mechanical or support needs and initiate dealership or vendor coordination
Support roadside or on-yard recovery situations, including tire changes, battery replacements, and minor troubleshooting
Mentor Drivers in proper field repair techniques, safety practices, and operational efficiency to build self-sufficiency
Coordinate acquisition of operational supplies (batteries, tools, minor components) to maintain execution readiness
Monitor daily progress toward movement and capacity goals; make real-time operational adjustments to meet changing production demands
Lead and execute small-scale operational improvement initiatives related to lot layout optimization, staging efficiency, transport processes, and driver equipment standardization
Ensure end-of-shift yard reset, including staging alignment, equipment readiness, and next-day movement preparation
Reinforce safety culture and operational discipline through visible leadership and example
What you need to be successful:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 3–7 years experience in yard operations, transportation, materials handling, logistics, or similar field-based operational environment
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL required
- Forklift certification required or ability to obtain certification
- Demonstrated hands-on mechanical aptitude, including basic roadside repair capabilities (battery replacement, tire changes, minor troubleshooting)
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgment in assessing chassis condition and determining when dealership or external support escalation is required
- Experience providing day-to-day work direction or informal leadership to small teams (approximately 6–9 team members)
- Strong understanding of yard safety practices, hazard recognition, and ability to reinforce safe behaviors in a field environment
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, consistency, and example in the absence of formal disciplinary authority
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (email, reporting, simple Excel tracking) and ability to communicate operational data accurately to the Dispatcher
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage shifting priorities and make real-time operational decisions under pressure
- Ability to lead and execute small-scale operational improvement initiatives related to yard layout, transport efficiency, and chassis exercises
