DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES -Performs four-handed chair-side assistance to treating dentist under direct supervisionPerforms dental radiography-intra-oral and panoramic imagesPerforms dental laboratory work-models, trays, temporaries for bridgework and crownsPerforms sterilization and disinfection of dental instruments and equipmentPrepares procedural trays/armamentaria set-upsReviews and records patient medical histories for dentist's referenceTakes and records patient's blood pressureMakes patient feel comfortable before and during treatmentCompletes thorough and timely clinical documentation in EMRCompletes laboratory authorization forms and maintains record of dental laboratory casesMixes dental materialsPlaces and removes retraction cordTakes preliminary impressionsApplies topical anesthetic in area of injection sitePlaces post-extraction dressingsProvides pre- and post- operative instruction for patientsPerforms routine maintenance of dental equipmentConsistently practices universal precautionsOrders dental supplies and materialsManages the appropriate disposal and removal of waste in dental clinicRecognizes and responds to basic medical emergenciesParticipate in dental huddle meetings to communicate and coordinate patient needs with the entire care teamCommunicates treatment recommendations with dental front deskProvides back-up for dental co-workers when neededPerforms all other related duties as assigned by Chief Dental Officer or Dentist(s)KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES - Meets professional behavioral expectationsServes as role model for all employees, displaying professional courtesy and compassionate care of patientsDemonstrates an ability to resolve interpersonal and professional conflicts appropriatelyParticipates in staff meetings, trainings, and committeesProlonged sitting and/or standing and moving about throughout the workdayPotential exposure to biohazardous materials, including ionizing radiationKeeps all matters related to the organization confidential in compliance with confidentiality policyAssumes responsibility for work performance and is able to be self-directedTakes pride in job performance as evident in compliance with job responsibilitiesMust have ability to collaborate and communicate with other staffPublic health orientation through training, experience, or professional interestWorks evening and weekend hours as scheduledAttends a minimum of one outreach event per calendar yearCommitment to NSCHC faith-based mission to provide care to all who request it, without judgmentQUALIFICATIONS - High School Diploma or G.E.D.Successful completion of Dental Assistant program required or currently enrolled in a programMust have current knowledge of and practice experience in dental assistingMust be able to bend, stretch and lift items up to 20 lbs.Current BCLS certificationCurrent Radiology certificationCurrent OSHA/HIPPA certificationProficiency in EDR software (Dentrix, Open Dental, eClinical Works, Dexis)Act 33 with renewalAct 34 with renewalAct 73 FBI Clearance with renewalAnnual influenza vaccine
