Our client is an engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) services company supporting complex industrial and energy-sector projects. They work closely with utility and infrastructure clients, providing project execution, administrative oversight, and specialized management support across the full project lifecycle. Our client frequently partners with external agencies to supplement staffing needs for large-scale, time-bound projects.
Job Summary
The Civil Field Engineer is responsible for overseeing and inspecting civil construction activities on large industrial and power plant projects, ensuring work is completed in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and applicable regulations. This role provides field engineering support by reviewing construction documentation, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, conducting inspections, and identifying constructability or sequencing issues to support safe and efficient project execution.
Job Description
- Oversee and inspect civil construction activities for power plant projects, including earthworks, grading, piling, concrete, drainage, roadways, and structural steel interfaces.
- Review and interpret IFC drawings, technical specifications, geotechnical reports, civil calculations, and survey data to ensure construction complies with project requirements.
- Ensure all civil work is performed in accordance with applicable standards, including ACI, ASTM, AASHTO, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
- Review contractor submittals, method statements, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and related documentation for compliance and constructability.
- Monitor and enforce QA/QC requirements throughout all phases of civil construction activities.
- Coordinate and manage interfaces between civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines to support efficient project execution.
- Conduct field inspections, document construction progress, and verify compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
- Identify constructability issues, sequencing conflicts, and potential risks, and collaborate with project teams to implement effective solutions.
- Build and maintain productive working relationships with project owners, contractors, and regulatory representatives.
- Participate in daily construction activities within active project sites while maintaining compliance with all safety requirements.
- Actively participate in daily coordination meetings, including Plan of Day (POD), End of Day (EOD), and all-hands meetings, to communicate project status and resolve field issues.
- Perform work safely in and around energized or potentially energized electrical environments while following established safety standards and procedures.
Skills Required
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in civil construction, including at least 3 years supporting large industrial or power plant projects.
- Experience serving in an Owner's Representative, Owner's Engineer, or EPC role.
- Strong knowledge of civil construction activities for power plant and large industrial projects, including earthworks, grading, piling, concrete, drainage, roadways, and structural steel interfaces.
- Ability to interpret IFC drawings, technical specifications, geotechnical reports, civil calculations, and survey data.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry standards and regulations, including ACI, ASTM, AASHTO, OSHA, and environmental requirements.
- Experience reviewing contractor submittals, method statements, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and QA/QC documentation for civil works.
- Familiarity with geotechnical, structural, and site development practices.
- Experience coordinating interfaces between civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
- Strong field inspection, documentation, and constructability review skills, with the ability to identify sequencing conflicts and construction issues.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with owners, contractors, regulatory representatives, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Ability to work safely in active construction environments, including around energized or potentially energized electrical equipment, while following established safety standards and procedures.
- Ability to work extended hours and rotational site schedules as required.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
Education/Training/Certifications
- High School Degree or GED
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering preferred
