Senior Accounts Payable Technician

Come join Penn National's remarkable team of professionals! We have one position available for either an Accounts Payable Technician or a Senior Accounts Payable Technician. (You only need to apply for one to be considered for either.) This is a hybrid position reporting to our iconic office in midtown Harrisburg, PA!
The Sr. AP Technician verifies the accuracy and appropriateness of transactions that have been entered into the Accounts Payable System based upon established federal, state, and company guidelines for processing and production of checks. This position is responsible for the recording of the appropriate sales/use tax in the AP system and the proper recording of 1099able expenses.
COMPETENCIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE SENIOR ACCOUNTS PAYABLE TECHNICIAN
Team Building
- Responsible for training new AP Technicians. Responsible for training existing AP Technicians on changes within the Oracle Accounts Payable system.
Attention to Details
- Maintains supporting documentation in the Accounts Payable System to substantiate and validate the release of funds to satisfy obligations. Maintains accounts payable history and supporting documentation in the Accounts Payable System.
Quality Orientation
- Reviews and verifies the appropriate documentation is received. Determines expense and expense classifications and processes for payment based upon established federal, state, and company guidelines.
- Reviews and verifies transactions ready for release for payment through the Accounts Payable System.
- Responsible for review and verification of interface transactions.
- Maintains accurate and complete accounts payable history and supporting documentation to substantiate and validate the release of funds to satisfy obligations. Responsible for sales/use tax entries and the proper recording of 1099able expenses in the Accounts Payable System.
- Identifies questionable submissions and makes informed decisions based upon company procedures and guidelines.
- Ensures all invoices are paid by the due date and all discounts are taken.
- Defers the most difficult situations to the Accounts Payable Group Leader for resolution. Aids with check cycle processing and distribution.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE SENIOR ACCOUNTS PAYABLE TECHNICIAN
Education/Credentials
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary accounting courses at a college level or equivalent work experience and/or training.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in an accounts payable environment required.
- Experience in Oracle a plus. Some general ledger experience preferred.
Technical/Professional Knowledge
- Analytical capabilities in generating and auditing reports for accounts payable activities regarding account balancing, invoices, and vendor information. Some general ledger use is required.
- Knowledge of personal computers in a Windows environment to include Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- Must have competent oral communication skills.
- Must have good written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a deadline driven environment.
- Requires attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
- Requires adaptability to changes in procedures.
- Strong organizational skills. Ability to learn new systems and train others accordingly.

This position is primarily a sedentary position that requires occasional standing and walking throughout the office environment.
Must be able to see and effectively use a computer monitor.
Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard and applicable printers and other general office equipment.

Must be able to hear and communicate via the telephone and/or monitoring devices to both internal and external clients.
Must be able to present information to individuals and groups.

Must be able to travel, with overnight stays if required. (Minimal travel)
