Description
Under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor, and a member of the Buildings and Grounds team, the Custodial Technician is responsible for consistent and reliable custodial work. This includes cleaning floors, bathrooms, offices, and all public areas of the buildings and grounds. They help provide for a safe, clean, welcoming, and healthy environment for the visitors, clients, staff, and residents of Northern Children’s Services.
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION
FACILITY UPKEEP
Maintain the overall cleanliness of all buildings and the grounds belonging to NCS (offices, public spaces, toilets, sinks, kitchens, bathrooms, windows, mirrors, dusting, pool areas, yards, and driveways, etc.)
Performs room turnovers upon resident move-out, including cleaning and preparation for new occupants.
Maintains grounds year-round and oversees all roadways and walkways to guarantee accessibility and safety, especially during rain and snowstorms. Keeps grounds free of trash and debris.
Performs landscaping duties, as needed.
Escorts to contractors on campus when needed.
Keeps tools, materials, and storage areas clean and safe.
Assists in compliance with all fire, safety, and sanitation regulations and other licensing and code requirements.
Oversees completion of all checklists and paperwork related to the cleanliness of buildings, equipment, and grounds, ensuring adherence to Agency standards.
Participates in the department’s emergency after-hours on-call schedule.
Performs all other professional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Buildings and Grounds or Custodial Supervisor that are consistent with the requirements of their position and their competencies.
COMMUNICATION
Attend monthly Safety Committee meetings as the official representative of the B&G department on a rotating basis. Attends other meetings and training sessions, as required.
Promotes and ensures effective communication between Buildings & Grounds staff and staff from other departments.
Utilizes Fresh Desk, Northern’s task management and ticketing system, to track the completion of tasks.
BASIC SKILL SETS
Custodial Technician must be able to:
Communicate and interact with all staff and residents.
Repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds throughout the day.
Climb ladders and walk roofs.
Read and understand regulatory policies, including fire, safety, and sanitation regulations.
Understand and follow directions.
Work independently and cooperatively as part of a team.
Manage work-related stress.
Basic computer and digital literacy.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
1-2 years of custodial experience
General understanding of custodial services in a campus or multi-site environment.
Transportation: Must have access to reliable transportation
PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job requires the ability to perform physical work, including the ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
Job requires the ability to walk up and down stairs.
Job requires walking and standing for hours at a time.
Job may require some evening and weekend hours.
SCHEDULE
This position is full-time, generally Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. with flexibility required to accommodate evening/weekend events, and participation in the overnight on-call rotation.
