Machine Shop Manager, Navy Systems (Job Number: 1344)
We are seeking a Machine Shop Manager to join our federal team at our York, PA plant . Our team at the Grantley Plant custom design, develops, manufactures, ships, installs, and maintains industrial HVAC equipment for Navy vessels of all sizes.

As a Machine Shop Manager , you will:
- Lean Implementation and Continuous Improvement: Implement and oversee Lean methodologies such as 6S, Kaizen, Gemba and TPM to boost efficiency and reduce waste. Lead continuous improvement initiatives, incorporating team feedback and driving key performance indicators. Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to enhance productivity and reduce costs, while also maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Supervision and Team Leadership: Supervise and guide machine shop staff across various shifts. Provide coaching, training, and performance evaluations for personnel to ensure quality, efficiency, and safety standards are met. Promote a safe and efficient workplace culture.
- Production Management: Manage the daily production schedule to meet delivery requirements and proactively address any delays. Ensure work orders are completed accurately and on time and collaborate with planning and mfg. engineering to optimize processes and manage tooling costs.
- Quality: Ensure production adheres to quality standards and customer specifications. Champion root cause analysis & corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. Support ISO9001:2015 program.
- Safety & Environment: Ensure compliance & Enforce safety regulations. Participate & support safety training and meetings. Work with relevant teams to perform 6S audits, Safety audits. Champion corrective/preventative action projects. Support ISO14001 Program.
- Administrative and Other Duties: Manage labor hours, prepare performance reports, oversee machine maintenance, and contribute to budget planning. Perform additional tasks as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous machining experience or Journeyman Machinist certification a plus as well as 5-7 years of significant supervisory experience in a machine shop
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of machining processes, including CNC, and experience with CAD/CAM software. Ability to interpret technical drawings.
- Lean Expertise: Formal training in Lean, proven understanding and application of Lean principles and tools. Documented execution of Lean practices in Mfg environment.
- Leadership and Soft Skills: Effective leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Other: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of safety and quality control procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a union setting.
- Familiarity with Production Control & collaboration with Program & Product Managers.
Preferred Education:
- Education: technical degree preferred
