Chemist – Analytical Science & Innovation
Join a dynamic technical team where your analytical expertise will directly support product development, operations, quality, environmental initiatives, and workplace safety. In this role, you will serve as a key resource across the organization, applying advanced laboratory methods to generate meaningful data, solve complex problems, and support continuous improvement.
What You’ll Do
Analytical Testing & Method Development
- Perform routine and advanced analysis by following established written and electronic procedures.
- Develop and document new analytical methods for customer products, final products, raw materials, and process streams.
- Conduct laboratory wet chemistry and utilize a wide range of instrumentation.
Advanced Instrumentation & Data Interpretation
- Lead operation and analysis using SEM/EDX and microscopy—core responsibilities of this role.
- Support and help manage LIMS software and data integrity practices.
- Maintain and manage software tools used for backing up instrument data.
- Operate and learn additional analytical instruments, including:
- ICP, IC, Sedigraph
- FTIR, GC, GC/MS
- HPLC, LC/MS
- DSC/TGA, contact angle
- Sample preparation methods such as pyrolysis, SPME, extractions, and derivatizations
Troubleshooting, Documentation & Reporting
- Perform routine troubleshooting and maintenance on laboratory instruments.
- Prepare detailed, well?organized technical reports with clear analytical findings.
- Maintain accurate, thorough laboratory records aligned with department standards.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work independently and as part of cross?functional project teams.
- Respond to customer inquiries and provide technical insights professionally and clearly.
- Interpret scientific literature, journals, and technical documents to support work.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow safe work practices and proper waste-handling procedures.
- Apply knowledge of environmental and safety regulations; familiarity with those applicable to the pulp and paper industry is a plus.
Qualifications
- B.S. in Chemistry.
- Two or more years of experience in an analytical laboratory (preferred).
- Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, and internet software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly motivated, detail?oriented, and able to work independently or collaboratively.
