About the Role

The Director of Food and Nutrition Services is responsible for leading all aspects of the district’s food service operations. This includes developing nutritious, compliant, and appealing menus; managing staff and resources effectively; ensuring budget adherence; and fostering a culture of wellness throughout our schools. This is a pivotal leadership role that blends nutrition expertise, operational efficiency, and strategic collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership

• Oversee all food and nutrition operations district-wide.
• Develop menus in alignment with USDA National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) guidelines.
• Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including health and safety standards.
• Supervise food procurement, inventory, and distribution.

Financial Stewardship

• Prepare and manage the department budget.
• Analyze financial data and prepare regular performance reports.
• Seek and apply for external funding and grants.

Staff Development & Oversight

• Hire, train, evaluate, and manage food service staff.
• Maintain effective staffing levels and scheduling.
• Cultivate a positive, solutions-oriented team culture.

Health & Wellness Advocacy

• Co-lead the district’s wellness committee.
• Partner with educators and families to support nutrition education initiatives.
• Promote healthy habits at school and community events.

Operational Excellence

• Maintain safe and efficient food prep and kitchen practices.
• Ensure all equipment and facilities are in top working order.
• Conduct site visits and quality assurance reviews.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as the district liaison for food services across departments and with the community.
• Provide updates and handle inquiries from stakeholders.
• Attend district meetings and serve on committees as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Service Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum of 3 years in school food service, or similar management experience preferred.
• Registered Dietitian (RD) credential preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• Proficient in budgeting, reporting, and educational technology systems.

Technical & Communication Skills

• Ability to analyze regulations, create written reports, and deliver presentations to diverse audiences.
• Skilled in data analysis, budgeting, and compliance documentation.
• Comfortable using district-supported technology platforms.
