Field Service Technician
- Demonstrate intermediate knowledge of internal combustion engines, electrical circuits, and mechanical systems used in power generation equipment.
- Determine overall mechanical condition of generators and equipment, diagnose malfunctions, and initiate repair actions.
- Systematically analyze equipment issues through visual/auditory inspection and test equipment.
- Utilize diagnostic computer programs effectively.
- Perform operational inspections and ensure equipment is properly serviced prior to rental.
- Complete repairs such as replacing engine heads, seals, accessory components, and performing engine overhead adjustments.
- Repair, adjust, or replace major assemblies and sub-assemblies including generator ends, radiators, fuel systems, and exhaust systems.
- Use technical manuals, wiring schematics, test equipment, and Cummins-based diagnostic software proficiently.
- Follow all established safety policies and standards.
- Safely operate hand and power tools, forklifts, overhead cranes, welders, and cutting/grinding tools; properly handle hazardous waste.
- Teach and guide Level 1 technicians on generator fundamentals.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues with customers over the phone as needed.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on power generation equipment.
- Perform accurate mechanical inspections and document findings.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Communicate equipment status and repair timelines with operations and customers.
- Support after-hours service calls as required.
- Safely move, lift, and position equipment using forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Complete service documentation, work orders, and reports using computer-based systems.
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience in small engine repair, mechanical work, or as a service technician.
- Basic knowledge of engine functionality and manufacturer-recommended service procedures required.
- Proficiency with basic computer systems, including diagnostic and mechanical troubleshooting programs.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide quality customer service and effectively communicate with internal teams.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, including availability for after-hours callouts as needed.
- Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes preferred (or ability to obtain certification).
- Must meet all internal driver eligibility requirements, including compliance with company policies, valid licensing, and acceptable driving record criteria.
