Job developer
Our mission is to provide programs and services to support people with disabilities to be included in the community, attain the highest level of independence, and live lives with maximum satisfaction.
The Job Developer is responsible for developing and securing community-based competitive employment opportunities for people with disabilities. The Job Developer will complete vocational assessments to identify participant strengths and obstacles. The Job Developer will work to identify appropriate job development services and employment opportunities based on the needs of the person. The Job Developer will provide necessary support to help participants to obtain and maintain employment.
Position Responsibilities
- Develop, secure and maintain appropriate community-based and competitive employment opportunities for program participants.
- Maintain good relationships with partnering companies.
- Identify job skills, work expectations and potential workplace challenges for individuals to be successful on the job.
- Complete vocational assessments to identify employment readiness, consumer preferences, vocational skills/obstacles and appropriate services for program participants.
- Develop community-based employment resources for participants.
- Provide information to employers on the value of employment for people with disabilities
- Provide information about the program and specific job coaching supports and other supports available when individuals are employed.
- Ensure updated information regarding tax incentives or other resources for employers of disabled individuals are provided.
- Follow up with employers after the individual completes job training to maintain and cultivate important relationships.
- Work closely with Job Coaches providing on-the-job training for individuals encouraging and motivating participants to fully engage in work and make a long term commitment to the job. Provide job coaching as necessary.
- Teach work rules/expectations.
- Teach appropriate social workplace behaviors.
- Teach how to independently travel to and from work. In the interim, transport or escort the program participant to job location.
- Provide input on the development and implementation of Supported Employment Supports Plans for individuals targeted to begin community jobs.
- Work closely with the team to secure employment, ensure training, and on-going supports are provided to employed individuals.
- Help teach appropriate workplace behavior to individuals by modeling appropriate social behavior at all times, including maintaining good attendance record including punctuality, following work procedures, maintaining appropriate workplace behaviors, dressing appropriately, and filling out timesheets accurately and timely.
- Assist with participant follow-up and in the delivery of case management services
- Complete job development reporting and invoicing in a timely manner.
- Job Developers are responsible for proactively following up with all assigned participants in their caseload.
- Ensure all documents and participant records are accurate and submitted timely as per agency policy, procedures and regulations
- Develop and maintain good relationships with the participant's family to support job experience.
- Ensure compliance with contracts with partnering companies and agencies. Submit coaching reports and other documentation as required.
- Attend departmental and agency-wide staff meetings and/or training as required.
- Perform additional duties as required/assigned by supervisor.
- Positively and professionally represent SpArc Services at all times.
- Participate in skill development and professional growth opportunities.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED or relevant experience with people with disabilities is required. Three (3) years prior work experience is desirable.
- Clear criminal and child abuse history, clear medical and drug screen. Valid driver's license.
- Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills with people from diverse backgrounds. Must be able to effectively engage and provide meaningful ongoing support.
- Able to effectively and persuasively explain and advocate for employment of participants. Able to partner with employers to support participant employment.
- Demonstrates flexibility, good judgment, problem solving skills, patience and persistence.
- Demonstrates the organization's core competencies and solid customer service skills.
- Committed and able to consistently model appropriate workplace behaviors as a teaching tool.
Physical Environment/Working Conditions
Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel independently to employment sites and adjust to the work environment of the participant's job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
