position summary
Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) is seeking Environmental Inspectors for upcoming construction projects in Pennsylvania and the surrounding region. Positions will be field-based and focus on supporting environmental surveys, assessments, and compliance management in support of utility, transportation, and development projects, with initial needs primarily in the areas of Pittsburgh and Coudersport, PA. Most time will be spent performing environmental inspections and including stormwater inspections. The ability to perform wetland delineations is also desired but not required.
The work environment will consist of remote field settings, which may include work in adverse weather conditions, and in some instances, irregular and/or steep terrain.
Compensation for this position starts at $30.00/hour but may be higher based on qualifications and experience. Limited benefits will be provided, including paid overtime, medical insurance offering, and a 401(K) match.

responsibilities
Oversee and report on active construction projects to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Conduct stormwater inspections to ensure erosion devices and best management practices are being implemented to ensure project compliance.
Understand and implement health and safety plans.
Collect geospatial data using Trimble and ESRI products.
Assist with wetland delineations according to the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineations Manual and applicable regional supplements.
Work with internal and external clients to ensure Merjent's reputation for excellence.
qualifications and experience
Bachelor's or associate degree in natural sciences or a closely related field, or field experience in lieu of degree.
Must currently possess or attain PA stormwater certifications by date of hire.
Experience using Microsoft Office software products including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Familiarity with Global Positioning System (GPS) data collection.
Ability to manage time and complete multiple tasks under tight schedule constraints and change in work scope and deadlines.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and "own" the process.
Excellent oral communication and technical writing skills.
Detail oriented with excellent critical thinking skills.
Ability to work well under pressure, and to manage heavy workloads in highly mobile and changing work environments.
Ability to conduct field work for 10+ hours per day, sometimes in adverse conditions.
Ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
Ability to work weekends, multiple week shifts away from home, and more than 40 hours per week during the construction season.
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen if required.
