Direct Support Professional

Location: West Mifflin, PA

Resources for Human Development, a part of Apis Services, Inc., is looking for full time direct support professionals to work in our Community Passages program. Community Passages is a community-based residential program designed to provide a homelike environment for individuals with developmental disabilities and dual diagnoses, many of whom present significantly challenging behaviors and most of whom previously resided at state centers and hospitals. Residents develop life skills, increase their self-esteem, and are empowered to make choices for themselves. Person-centered planning, self-determination, and personalization foster individualized programs in an open and safe environment encouraging consumer empowerment and personal growth.

We have a full time opening in West Mifflin, PA. Full time is 40 hours a week, and the established shifts vary. Our days are split into 7 am to 3 pm shifts, 3 to 11 pm shifts, and awake overnights from 11 pm to 7 am. Full time employees choose from a selection of great benefits and earn paid time off. We are also seeking part time and relief direct support professionals. We are currently hiring for the following shift:

West Mifflin: Monday through Friday 3 pm to 11 pm OR Tuesday through Saturday 3 pm to 11 pm.

Job Summary:

As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. Your responsibilities will include assisting clients with daily living activities, promoting independence, and providing emotional support and companionship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support clients in daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and household management.
  • Foster a positive and respectful relationship with clients while promoting their independence and personal choices.
  • Assist clients in developing skills for everyday living and participate in social and recreational activities.
  • Document client progress and maintain accurate records of care and support provided.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and other team members to ensure coordinated care.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; further education in a related field is a plus.
  • Previous experience in direct support, caregiving, or a related field preferred.
  • Compassionate and patient demeanor with a genuine desire to help others.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willing to obtain).
  • Subject to background check including FBI clearance, if applicable.
