Position Overview
MEC is seeking a skilled and dependable Machinery Mover/ Rigger to join our operations team. This role performs specialized work involving the safe transport, rigging, delivery and placement, of sensitive medical equipment in hospitals, laboratories, and clinical environments.
This is more than basic material handlingit requires precision, mechanical aptitude, and a strong understanding of rigging principles in high-stakes, customer-facing settings. Employees work in clean, highly professional healthcare environments where safety, attention to detail, and customer confidence are critical.
As a Level 2 team member, you will operate with limited supervision, independently executing standard jobs alongside supporting more complex work. You will also play a key role in reinforcing safety, quality, and proper techniques and procedures with less experienced team members. This is a strong skilled-trade opportunity with growth into lead-level responsibilities.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform safe loading, unloading, rolling, skidding, hoisting, and final placement of sensitive medical equipment
- Plan and execute path-of-travel, accounting for center of gravity, clearances, and site constraints
- Select and properly use rigging and moving equipment including gantries, forklifts, liftgates, skates, toe jacks, cribbing, bars, straps, and chains
- Oversee loading, protection, securement, and transport preparation of equipment in accordance with manufacturer standards and DOT requirements
- Assist with equipment de-crating/crating, disassembly/assembly, leveling, anchoring, securement, and basic mechanical alignment
- Conduct accurate pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections (when driving)
- Identify jobsite hazards and actively participate in pre-task planning and safety discussions
- Maintain strict white glove standards, protecting equipment, as well as floors, walls, etc in a sensitive environment
- Communicate clearly with crew leads, operations, hospital staff, manufacturer and customer representatives
- Support and guide Level 1 employees, demonstrating and reinforcing proper methods and safety practices
- Execute standard jobs and assist with more complex, multi-piece, or high-risk moves
- Work flexible schedules, including overtime and weekends, with periodic travel primarily within the Mid-Atlantic region based on customer needs.
Skills Required for Success
- Strong understanding of rigging fundamentals, including load balance, equipment limits, and safe handling practices
- Ability to operate and maintain a wide range of specialized moving and rigging equipment
- Mechanical aptitude with hands-on problem-solving ability
- High attention to detail in clean, occupied healthcare environments
- Professional presence with strong customer-facing communication skills
- Commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- 13+ years of experience in rigging, Placement, specialty moving, delivery, or mechanical field work
- Working knowledge of equipment handling, load securement, and jobsite safety
- Ability to safely use rigging tools and specialty moving equipment
- CDL Required:
- Premium paid for valid Class A ($5 per hour) or Class B ($3 per hour) CDL upon employment
- Premium paid for valid Class A ($5 per hour) or Class B ($3 per hour) CDL upon employment
- Willingness to travel regionally and support variable schedules
- Ability to travel periodically required, including overnight and weekends
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
- Forklift certification or hands-on experience preferred
- Prior experience handling medical equipment or other high-value industrial equipment preferred
- NCCCO Rigger or similar certification preferred
