Traveling Construction Superintendent

Job Summary

A well-established commercial general contractor is seeking a Traveling Construction Superintendent to lead commercial renovation, tenant improvement, retail, restaurant, hospitality, and build-out projects throughout the surrounding region. This direct hire opportunity is ideal for a hands-on field leader who enjoys managing subcontractors, solving jobsite challenges, and delivering high-quality projects safely and on schedule.

This role offers stable, year-round work with a growing contractor, supportive project leadership, ongoing safety and equipment training, and the opportunity to take ownership of visible commercial projects. Candidates can be based in Pittsburgh, PA, or within approximately 5 to 7 hours of Pittsburgh, with paid travel, lodging, and daily per diem provided.

The successful Traveling Construction Superintendent will be a proactive communicator who builds strong relationships with trade partners, clients, inspectors, and internal project teams while maintaining a professional, organized, and safety-focused jobsite.

Key Responsibilities

- Direct day-to-day field operations from project kickoff through final completion for commercial renovation and build-out projects.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, materials, equipment, and schedules to keep work moving efficiently.
- Review blueprints, specifications, and project documents to ensure work is completed accurately and to quality standards.
- Monitor project timelines, identify potential delays, and implement practical solutions in the field.
- Maintain safe, clean, organized jobsites while enforcing company safety standards and completing required documentation.
- Oversee punch list completion, final inspections, client walkthroughs, and project closeout activities.

Compensation and Benefits

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Lead commercial construction field operations for renovation, tenant improvement, retail, restaurant, hospitality, or similar projects.
- Manage subcontractors, project schedules, jobsite documentation, inspections, and closeout activities.
- Read and interpret architectural drawings, construction documents, specifications, and project plans.
- Maintain jobsite safety, quality control, and professional communication with clients, inspectors, and trade partners.

- Previous experience as a Commercial Construction Superintendent, Traveling Superintendent, or Field Superintendent.
- Approximately 3 to 5 years of relevant commercial construction field leadership experience preferred.
- Experience managing fast-paced commercial renovation, build-out, remodel, or occupied construction projects.
- Ability to coordinate multiple subcontractors and active jobsite priorities simultaneously.
- Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable using computers for email, reporting, daily logs, project documentation, and jobsite photos.
- Valid driver's license required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability and willingness to travel to regional project sites, including overnight travel as needed.
- Ability to maintain a safe, organized, and professional jobsite throughout the full project lifecycle.

- Forklift certification or forklift operating experience.
- Experience with restaurant construction and remodels.
- Experience with retail store build-outs.
- Experience with tenant improvement projects.
- Experience with hospitality renovations.
- Experience managing fast-paced occupied remodels or commercial interior renovations.
