 BASIC FUNCTION:

 Under the direction shop supervisor, plant manager and/or designee, the Welder fabricator will complete the fabrication procedures and related activities as provided for GapVax, Inc. In addition to fabricating components the Welder fabricator will perform designated quality control functions, inventory control, training of new staff, and general shop maintenance as directed. The Welder fabricator will perform these functions in safe and efficient manner. 

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Understands and demonstrates commitment to the mission of GapVax, Inc. through daily communication, cooperation, and attention to detail of work performed.

 Responsible for completing the welding fabrication process as required during the chassis and finishing process of the manufacturing cycle while ensuring conformance to blue prints and expected quality control standards. Welders also look for faulty components during the manufacturing and assembly process and may be required to test components, assembled parts or systems to ensure functionality. 

  COMPETENCIES AND TASKS

• Familiarity with pipe fittings, couplers, adapters and their uses


• Familiarity with saws and cutters


• Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions


• Operate safety equipment and use safe work practices


• Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies using a straight edge, combination squares, and tape measure


• Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications


• Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tool common to the weld trade, such as shielded metal arc


• Weld separately or in combination, using aluminum, stainless steel, and other alloy metals


• Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding


• Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux or other types of thicknesses of metal


• Connect and turn regulator valves to active and adjust gas flow and pressure so that desired flames are obtained.


• Examines seams for defects and rework defective joints or broken joints or broken parts


• Clean work pieces to remove dirt using a wire brush or, grinder, or file


• Turn valves to start flow of gases and light flames and adjust valves to obtain desired colors and sizes of flames


• Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers


• Move parts into position with hoists, crane, or JIB crane


• Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprint and layout specifications, and using JIGS, welding torches, and hand tools


• Study engineering drawings to determine material requirements and task sequences


•  Tack weld and fit parts together


• Lift or move materials and finished products, using large cranes


• Remove high spot and cut bevels


• Turn valves to start flow of gases and light flames and adjust valves to obtain desired colors and sizes of flames

EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS

• Understand and operate the following tools according to the safety policy: forklift, cranes, drill press, punch press, and handheld electric drill equipment, hand files, portable grinders, cutting torches, shears, torches, grinders, electric metal saw to bend, cut punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components

COOPERATION

• Work with purchasing engineering and partnering fabrication departments to ensure quality


• Present accurate and time and material information to accounting


• Work with foreman to fabricate parts


• Work with safety manager in order to maintain a safe working environment

• Observe scheduled work hours and maintain appropriate attendance according to policy

Salary/Compensation: $20.00 - $29.00 per hour
