Ship Fitter

Suerteksa LLC is hiring ship fitters for a shipbuilding project in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, ZIP 19112.

Key Responsibilities:

• Read, understand, plan, and perform work based on drawings, technical documentation, and established production procedures.
• Perform shipfitting work in shipbuilding, as well as structural metal and steel work, both independently and as part of a crew.
• Fit, assemble, and install metal hull structures.
• Work with hull components, bulkheads, hatches, doors, and other structural elements.
• Be able to perform welding work when required: welding internal structures, hatches, doors, bulkheads, and other components necessary to complete steel work on the vessel.
• Train and mentor apprentices.

Practical Test:

All candidates who successfully pass the initial screening must complete an on-site practical test, which includes making a fillet weld in two positions: vertical up and overhead.

Welding Types:

• SMAW (stick welding)
• FCAW (flux-cored arc welding)

Qualification Requirements:

• Minimum 3 years of shipbuilding experience (required), including recent work experience.
• Experience in fabrication, assembly, and fitting of structural metal components on new-build ship projects.
• Vocational or technical education and/or equivalent training, or verified work experience.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, bend, reach above shoulder level, grasp and pull, repeatedly bend, and climb stairs.
• Ability to distinguish colors, see at close and long distances, have peripheral vision, and maintain visual focus.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (approximately 23 kg) independently and move up to 100 lbs (approximately 45 kg) with assistance.

Work may be performed:

• in conditions of limited lighting and access;
• at heights;
• in hard-to-reach areas and confined spaces;
• both indoors and outdoors;
• in high and low temperatures.
• Hand tools, power tools, and other production equipment are used in the work.
