Claims Leader
A P&C insurance carrier is seeking a Claims Leader. The Claims Leader will have full authority over claim policies, procedures and philosophy. This role offers broad exposure across the business, including marketing, reinsurance and industry associations, while providing the opportunity to establish and execute a comprehensive claims strategy. As the organization’s subject matter expert, the Claims Leader will make final decisions on significant claims, drive process improvements, and shape the structure and effectiveness of the claims department, including evaluating outsourced functions and multi-line units. This executive will also represent the company externally through presentations, articles and participation in industry organizations, while fostering professional development and ensuring accurate claims data for underwriting and trend analysis. Key priorities in the first six months include streamlining claims processes, evaluating the structure of outsourced and internal claims functions, and enhancing industry connectivity to position the department for long-term success. This is a retained search. Responsibilities:
- Develop and enforce the company’s claims philosophy, policies and procedures. Make final decisions on major claims, and ensure consistent, high-quality execution across the department.
- Oversee the structure and performance of the claims department, including Property, Litigation and Multi-Line Fast-Track units. Evaluate and potentially restructure outsourced functions, streamline processes, and standardize procedures to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with marketing, reinsurance, underwriting and other business units to ensure claims strategies align with overall company objectives. Provide insights and data to support underwriting, trend analysis and business growth.
- Represent the company externally through association participation, presentations, interviews and authored content. Build industry connectivity, enhance the company’s reputation, and stay informed on emerging trends and best practices.
- Be available to insureds, especially during major events, ensuring exceptional service. Invest in ongoing education, professional growth, and leadership development to maintain expertise and influence within the organization and the industry.
- Bachelor’s degree
- MBA or advanced certifications (preferred)
- Leadership experience as the top executive in a claims department, with full control over claims policy, procedures and philosophy
- Broad complex commercial casualty claims leadership experience
- Proven track record managing vendors and service providers
- Hands-on familiarity with multiple claims systems, with the ability to quickly learn new platforms
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with a hands-on approach, diving into the details to understand and improve claims organization performance
- Results-driven, consistently focused on achieving and exceeding both annual and long-term goals
