Job Summary
We’re seeking a Magento (Adobe Commerce) Headless Software Developer to help build fast, modern e-commerce experiences that customers love. You’ll work with Magento as an API-first backend and a React/Next.js storefront architecture (GraphQL-forward, GraphCommerce-style). This is a hands-on role with real ownership—ideal for someone who moves quickly, works independently, and enjoys shipping improvements that directly impact customer experience, conversion, and site performance. Hyvä (Themes or Checkout) experience is a strong bonus.
What We Offer/Why Join
- Competitive compensation and benefits.
- Opportunity to work on modern, composable commerce architectures.
- Engineering-driven culture with room to influence technical direction.
- Long-term platform ownership and growth opportunities.
- Autonomy and accountability: trusted to scope work, make decisions, and deliver.
- Visible impact: your work ships to production and improves customer experience and performance.
This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy combining Magento’s robust commerce engine with modern React-based frontends. If you’ve worked with GraphCommerce, or built something similar, you’ll feel right at home. Hyvä experience is a strong plus, but React + Magento GraphQL + PHP expertise is core to this role.
Work Location Requirement
This position is on-site Monday through Friday at our Easton, PA headquarters to support fast collaboration, production schedules, and close coordination with internal teams. Hybrid/remote may be considered for highly qualified candidates who can work Eastern Time and visit on-site occasionally.
What You’ll Work On
- A headless storefront and modern customer journeys (browse → PDP → checkout)
- Performance and reliability improvements that move real business metrics
- Integrations across key systems (payments, loyalty, ERP/PIM/CMS)
- Practical engineering in a high-visibility e-commerce environment
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Build and maintain headless Magento / Adobe Commerce implementations using GraphQL and REST APIs.
- Develop and extend Magento backend services, custom modules, and integrations.
- Work with React.js storefronts (e.g., GraphCommerce-style architectures) consuming Magento GraphQL APIs.
- Collaborate with frontend teams using React, Next.js, and modern JavaScript tooling.
- Optimize Magento API performance, caching, indexing, and query efficiency.
- Design and maintain integrations with third-party systems (CMS, ERP, PIM, payments, loyalty, etc.).
- Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to platform reliability and performance.
- Write clean, testable, and well-documented code.
- Implement and customize Hyvä Checkout.
- Develop React/Next.js storefront functionality in a GraphCommerce architecture.
- Collaborate effectively with a small cross-functional team.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- 3–6+ years building and shipping web applications in production as a full-stack or backend-leaning full-stack developer.
- Strong PHP experience with modern frameworks and patterns; Magento 2/Adobe Commerce experience strongly preferred (see Preferred Qualifications).
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript experience and hands-on work with React and modern front-end tooling (Next.js experience a plus).
- Experience consuming and designing GraphQL/REST APIs, including performance considerations (caching, query efficiency).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently: scoping work, making sound technical decisions, shipping iteratively, and communicating progress/risks clearly.
- Proven track record of delivering under real-world constraints: debugging production issues, improving performance, and balancing speed with quality.
- Comfortable collaborating across functions (product/UX/front-end) and writing clear documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong experience with Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce backend development.
- Proven experience building headless Magento storefronts.
- Strong React.js experience, including real-world production storefronts.
- Hands-on experience with Magento GraphQL APIs.
- Familiarity with GraphCommerce or similar Magento + React architectures (e.g., Next.js-based headless storefronts).
- Solid PHP/Magento experience (custom modules, DI, Magento architecture).
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, agile development processes, and SEO fundamentals.
- Performance tooling experience (Lighthouse/Core Web Vitals, New Relic, Blackfire).
- Ability to work cross-functionally with frontend, product, and design teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Experience using AI-assisted coding tools (Claude Code, ChatGPT, Copilot) to accelerate development, debugging, and documentation.
Bonus Qualifications
- Hyvä Themes experience in addition to Hyvä Checkout.
- Experience migrating from Luma or legacy Magento frontends to headless or Hyvä-based solutions.
- Deep experience with performance tuning and SSR/ISR strategies.
- Familiarity with PWA Studio, Vercel, or composable commerce tooling.
- Experience deploying Adobe Commerce in cloud environments (Adobe Commerce Cloud, AWS, GCP).
- Performance and monitoring experience (New Relic, Blackfire, Lighthouse).
- eCommerce experience (checkout/payment flows, catalog complexity, conversion optimization).
- Familiarity with NetSuite and/or Celigo.
Physical Requirements
- Core business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position may require flexibility, including occasional work outside standard hours to meet critical deadlines or address sensitive operational needs.
- Ability to work on-site at a computer workstation for extended periods.
