POSITION OVERVIEW

CFS is seeking personable and highly responsible adults who have a passion for mentoring teenage boys of diverse races and ethnicities to join our Residential Life Faculty as a House Supervisor. House Supervisors are required to have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in the social service fields (education, social work, counseling, sociology, psychology, adolescent development, etc.). A valid and active Driver’s License is required. Alumni of CFS are always encouraged to apply.

This is a salaried, professional, live-in position and housing is provided. Primary responsibilities include actively supervising, supporting and developing up to 16 boys in a cottage-style dormitory two full nights/overnights per week (4 pm to 9 am), one affiliate shift per week (6:30 pm to 9:30 pm) and every other weekend (4 pm Friday to 9 am Monday). Other responsibilities such as teaching, subbing, coaching, advising, driving scholars to appointments and/or administrative support services may also be added/required based on school needs and each candidate’s education, skills and experience.

POSITION SPECIFICS

Accountability:

· Reports to the Dean of Residential Life.

· Accountability to the Head of School and the school administration through the Director of Student Life (program director and hiring authority).

· Accountability to students, faculty and staff, parents/guardians and alumni.

· Accountability to the CFS mission and core values (respect, responsibility, integrity and brotherhood).

Responsibility to Students:

· Follow the House Supervisor daily checklist and adhere to all safety expectations.

· Actively and caringly mentor all students and guide senior student leaders, especially your cottage prefect. Get to know and actively engage with all scholars in your cottage.

· Be present, on-time, focused and responsible when on duty.

· Support the school’s Social Emotional Learning (SEL)/Life Skills programming by teaching/facilitating lessons and discussions in the cottages, as needed/required.

· Aid students in their academic success by helping them develop organizational and study skills during evening study hours, as required.

· Encourage scholars in fostering an appreciation and respect for differences in individuals.

· Support the spiritual development of boys within the school’s Chapel program.

· Promote self-discipline and responsible decision-making among the students.

Responsibility to Parents/Guardians:

· Parents and guardians are our partners.Strong, honest relationships with parents or guardians are expected.

· Regular communication via a mix of phone calls, emails, text messages, report card comments and in-person interactions strengthen these relationships.

Responsibility to your Cottage and the Head House Supervisor:

· Treat the entire cottage as your home and instill that pride in your residents. Consistently manage the cleanliness of common areas and student rooms within the cottage and around the school.

· Maintain timely and accurate cottage logs, records and any other reporting requirements.

· Mirror and uphold the house policies and behavioral expectations established by the Head House Supervisor on your duty nights. Adult expectations and responses should be in sync.

Responsibility to the Residential Life Faculty and the Student Life Program:

· Actively and enthusiastically support the SWAT (Schedule of Weekend Activities and Trips), the Administrator on Duty (AOD) and the Dispatcher on duty weekends.

· Attend and participate in team meetings and residential or student life activities.

· Be present at school meals when on duty and actively assist in the management of the Dining Center.

· Understand that as an adult leader, your influence and responsibility to scholars and the CFS community extends beyond the cottage in which you live and work.

Responsibility to the School, the Entire Faculty and the Staff:

· Cultivate and consistently maintain hospitable relationships with all members of the CFS community.

· Effectively and appropriately communicate with CFS students, adults and parents.

· Check email, text messages and your school mailbox on a regular basis to stay informed and respond to requests in a timely manner.

· Promote and develop a sense of community, collegiality and cooperation within the cottage and around the school.

· Attend all scheduled residential faculty meetings, school in-services and CFS community events.

· Keep yourself physically and mentally healthy and avail yourself of the people and resources available to you.

· Seek out and request Professional Development opportunities to keep your skills sharp and to continue growing your awareness, knowledge and best practices.
