Manager, Workday Systems

Position OverviewSTARR is embarking on a transformational enterprise technology initiative: the implementation of Workday HCM and Financials, with a project launch in March 2026 and full go-live targeted for January 2027. We are seeking a Manager, Workday Systems to serve as the organization’s primary technical lead and platform owner throughout implementation and beyond.
This is a platform governance role, not a functional administration role. STARR will have dedicated HRIS and ERP Managers within HR and Finance respectively to handle day-to-day operations for their functional areas. The Manager, Workday Systems owns the platform holistically: architecture, security model, integrations, cross-functional coordination, and organizational policy for system access and use.
This position reports directly to the VP of Information Technology and is part of a newly established Technology GRC (Governance, Risk, & Compliance) team. As the organization matures with Workday post-implementation, this role is expected to evolve into a broader enterprise GRC function. Establishing formal governance over data quality, system access, compliance, and third-party risk across all major platforms.
Key Responsibilities:Implementation Leadership (2026–2027)
- Serve as STARR’s primary technical lead and internal subject matter expert throughout the Workday HCM and Financials implementation
- Partner with implementation consultants to ensure platform configuration aligns with STARR’s operational requirements and long-term scalability
- Lead internal testing efforts including UAT coordination, data validation, and issue resolution across all modules
- Coordinate with HR, Finance, Payroll, and IT stakeholders to ensure successful adoption and change management
- Oversee data migration strategy and execution in partnership with the Data and Analytics Analyst
- Own overall Workday platform architecture, configuration standards, and tenant management
- Design and maintain the enterprise security model including role-based access controls (RBAC), security groups, and domain security policies
- Establish and enforce organizational policies for system access, data handling, and compliance
- Coordinate with HRIS Manager (HR) and ERP Manager (Finance) on shared configurations, cross-module dependencies, and business process alignment
- Lead all Workday release evaluations; assess new features and coordinate updates across functional areas
- Own and administer all Workday integrations including payroll providers, benefits carriers, banking/ACH, and third-party systems
- Develop and maintain integrations using Workday Studio, EIBs, Core Connectors, and Cloud Connect
- Build and maintain reports, dashboards, and calculated fields using Workday reporting tools and Prism Analytics
- Troubleshoot integration failures and coordinate resolution with vendors and internal teams
- Serve as the day-to-day relationship owner with Workday and implementation partners
- Manage support cases, escalations, and feature requests through Workday Community
- Provide guidance and governance support to HRIS Manager and ERP Manager on platform-level decisions
- Report on platform health, adoption metrics, and compliance status to IT and executive leadership
- Evolve the role into broader Technology GRC leadership as STARR matures with Workday
- Establish enterprise data governance standards across Workday and other major platforms
- Lead third-party risk assessment and vendor compliance monitoring
- Support audit readiness and regulatory compliance initiatives
- Minimum 5–7 years of hands-on experience administering Workday, with demonstrated expertise in BOTH HCM and Financials modules
- Prior completion of at least one large-scale, enterprise-wide Workday implementation as an internal resource or lead consultant
- Deep expertise in Workday security architecture including RBAC, security groups, and domain security policies
- Strong integration experience using Workday Studio, EIBs, Core Connectors, and/or Cloud Connect
- Proficiency with Workday reporting tools including Report Writer, Composite Reports, and Prism Analytics
- Experience managing Workday releases, testing cycles, and tenant administration
- Strong project management and cross-functional coordination skills
- Excellent communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts for business stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Workday Pro certification in HCM, Financials, Integrations, or Security
- Experience in hospitality, restaurant, or retail industries with understanding of tip reporting, hourly workforce management, and multi-state payroll complexities
- Experience with POS system integrations (Toast preferred) for labor and tip data
- Familiarity with GRC frameworks, SOX compliance, or IT audit processes
- Experience implementing or administering Workday Adaptive Planning, Extend, or other advanced modules
