We are seeking a Project Manager for Youth Engagement, which will ensure there is a youth voice centered in Groundeds community visioning and development work. The Project Manager for Youth Engagement (YE) directs, manages, and leads the execution of specific initiatives and projects related to engaging youth in the topics of environmental justice, environmental education, and the reclamation of vacant land for community benefit. At the moment, our programs are most focused on middle and high school-aged youth.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee, coordinate and lead on-site engagements with youth, including indoor learning and outdoor site-building activities.
  • Maintain and build Groundeds environmental justice-focused youth engagement curriculum, especially to layer in a stronger focus on sustainable workforce preparation and elements of adult mentorship.
  • Lead Grounded youth- and educator-focused programming and initiatives through the stages of conceptualization, planning, budgeting, execution, and reporting.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships between Grounded and youth-serving organizations, educators and youth employers throughout Allegheny County.

General Responsibilities

  • Discover ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people
  • Read and edit reports prepared by fellow staff
  • Ensure program/project operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and internal policies
  • Prepare slides for assigned programs/projects to present to the organization on a quarterly basis.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on topics relevant to your program area
  • Represent Grounded by presenting updates at working groups, partner committees, and community groups

Requirements

  • Experience with developing and executing classroom curricula for youth between the ages of 12 and 18.
  • Experience supervising, monitoring and resolving conflicts with children in an informal or formal learning environment.
  • Ability to have authentic and courageous conversations with young people about their lived experiences and their communities relative to environmental justice.
  • Ability to obtain current PA Act 33/34 Clearances and FBI Fingerprint Background Check
  • Adaptable to flexible work hours and environment with evolving program priorities
  • Valid PA driver's license required
  • Understanding of project/program management techniques and methods
  • Experience with project reporting and budgeting
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience creating and maintaining program schedules.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities at once.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a highly integrated and diverse team.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, think strategically and manage conflict.
  • Proficient computer skills. Programs and applications typically used include Google Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a field related to Groundeds work (including but not limited to design, social science, education, planning or sustainability) preferred, plus three (3) years of directly-related experience working with young people. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted, as long as it directly relates to the essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to operate TCSL vehicle (15 passenger van).
  • Applicable teaching/child development certifications and licenses preferred.
  • Working knowledge of community outreach and engagement, as well as a strong desire for supporting and empowering young people to practice citizenship and affect positive change in their communities.

Personal Qualifications

  • Strong desire and ability to communicate and work with youth in grades 6-12, as well as recent high school graduates, from racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and gender diverse communities. Experience working in low-income and communities of color preferred.
  • An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias; and a genuine commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Personal values align with the vision and values of Grounded Strategies, including Grounded's stance on anti-racism, as well as Groundeds policies related to workplacediscrimination and harassment.
