The Role:
The Commercial Solar Designer will be responsible for designing commercial solar systems and generating cost estimates to support the delivery of efficient, high-quality solar projects. This role involves project design, drafting plans, managing vendor relationships, and supporting interconnection, permitting, and procurement efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Detail oriented with strong documentation and organizational skills.
• Experience preparing interconnection applications.
• Strong vendor relationship and communication skills.
• Estimating and reporting experience.
• Effective decision-making and teamwork capabilities.
• Experience with site visits and inspections.
• Ability to value engineer and optimize system design.
• Experience running RFPs with outside electrical engineers.
• Electrical engineering background required.
• CAD proficiency and ability to read CAD files related to electrical and mechanical systems.
• Experience using Helioscope and other design tools (required).
• Solid understanding of solar energy systems and construction timelines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project.

Requirements:

• Participate in and lead project cost estimating efforts.
• Draft electrical engineered plans and coordinate stamped drawings with PEs.
• Design systems to optimize efficiency and reduce BOS costs.
• Participate in utility calls and interconnection planning.
• Manage bids and scopes tied to MV/AC equipment and subcontractor services.
• Quantify material needs and support the procurement process.
• Contribute to RFP responses and draft interconnection applications.
• Understand and meet electrical permitting requirements.
• Travel as needed for site inspections and project troubleshooting.
• Support procurement of major solar components including modules, inverters, and MV packages.
• Keep informed of emerging technologies to enhance system performance and reduce costs.
• Utilize NABCEP certification to meet program eligibility requirements.

Schedule:
Full-Time | Office-Based with Occasional Travel for Site Inspections
This role primarily operates in a professional office environment but includes periodic visits to active construction or development sites. Site visits may require exposure to outdoor weather, heights, and construction conditions.
Some travel may be required for vendor meetings, site evaluations, or project support.
