We are seeking a driven, detail-oriented Sous Chef to support our culinary program and kitchen operations. This is a rare opportunity to help shape the culinary direction of an ambitious NEW concept and contribute to a passionate team dedicated to excellence.
Position Overview:
The Sous Chef supports the Executive Chef in overseeing all aspects of day-to-day kitchen operations. This includes executing menu standards, ensuring food quality and consistency, training and scheduling kitchen staff, assisting with cost control, and upholding the brand’s promise of exceptional cuisine and guest satisfaction. The Sous Chef collaborates closely with the Executive Chef, ownership, and management to ensure operational excellence, profitability, and consistency in all food offerings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute and uphold seasonal, high-quality menus that reflect the restaurant’s concept and culinary vision
- Ensure consistency in taste, presentation, timing, portioning, and overall food quality
- Lead by example on the line; support grill, sauté, roast, raw bar, and expo as needed
- Train, coach, and mentor a high-performing culinary team, fostering a culture of professionalism, growth, and excellence
- Maintain impeccable standards of sanitation, safety, and cleanliness in accordance with ServSafe and local health regulations
- Assist with inventory management, ordering, and vendor relationships to ensure product quality and cost efficiency
- Help establish and monitor food and labor cost targets; implement strategies to meet financial goals (prep maps, pars, waste control, yields)
- Collaborate with front-of-house management on special events, private dining, and promotional initiatives
- Stay current on culinary trends and contribute fresh ideas that enhance the guest experience
- Actively participate in tastings, staff education, line checks, and pre-shift briefings; engage with guests when appropriate
- Serve as acting kitchen lead in the Executive Chef’s absence to ensure smooth service and standards compliance
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef or Lead Line Cook/Chef de Partie in a high-volume, upscale, or fine dining environment
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop a diverse culinary team
- Solid knowledge of culinary techniques, ingredient sourcing, station management, and kitchen operations (steak/seafood experience a plus)
- Exceptional organizational skills with a sharp focus on cleanliness, efficiency, and attention to detail
- Ability to balance creativity with cost controls and operational requirements
- ServSafe Certification or equivalent food handler certification required
- Degree from an accredited culinary school preferred but not required
