JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Coping and Regulation of Environment Stress (CaRES) Lab, directed by Dr. Martha Wadsworth in the College of Liberal Arts at Penn State University, invites applications for multiple Part Time BaSICS Program Lead Facilitator in the Harrisburg/Hershey, PA area.

The Part Time BaSICS Program Lead Facilitator will have the opportunity to work on a NIMH-funded study, investigating the efficacy of the Building a Strong Identity and Coping Skills (BaSICS) program, which is a group-based, team-building coping and empowerment intervention developed specifically to meet the needs of youth growing up in poverty. This position will mainly be responsible for delivering a highly structured program to a group of child participants, aged 11-14 within the Harrisburg and Hershey, PA areas. This is a great opportunity to gain clinical and research experience while implementing and coordinating the Building a Strong Identity and Coping Skills (BaSICS) Program.

Primary Duties and Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead in the delivery of a structured curriculum.
  • Set up and prepare materials for BaSICS program.
  • Manage intervention data.
  • Manage communication with parents of participants.
  • Manage behavior using positive reinforcement
  • Actively engage with schools and/or community organizations
  • Attend weekly team meetings.

Education and Experience:

  • The successful candidates for this position will have a master's degree in clinical psychology or a related field of study.
  • The successful candidates for this position will have an interest in or experience in social science research or professional experience working with children and families within the community
  • Ability to problem-solve and reflect on performance
  • Exemplary organizational and writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially for working with youth
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and accurately

Commitment and Duration

  • BaSICS programs will be conducted in person in the Harrisburg and Hershey, PA areas
  • BaSICS programs will run on a quarterly basis with approximately 3 groups per year. Each group is 8 weeks in length with 2 BaSICS sessions per week.
  • BaSICS groups will be conducted after school with hours from approximately 3:30-6:30pm.
  • This position will work approximately 8-10 hours per week during intervention groups.
