Job Purpose:

The Vintner's Table Tasting Host is responsible for ensuring that customers have a positive and memorable experience at Vintner's Table. Tasting Hosts should have a genuine interest and great enthusiasm for learning about wine and sharing that knowledge with our guests as they guide them through service/wine tastings. This role is intended for someone with excellent verbal and interpersonal skills and someone who enjoys conversing and interacting with different types of people and different types of wine drinkers. The Tasting Host should take personal leadership in providing outstanding service and friendliness that exceeds expectations with every customer, to build authentic and loyal customer relationships.

Under the guidance of the Restaurant Manager, the Tasting Host serves as the first point of contact for our customers. This is a brand ambassador that will carry out exceptional customer experiences and wine education that results in wine sales. As a result, the Tasting Host should possess serving and/or wine bar experience, should have a super-charged customer-focused attitude, and a vibrant enthusiasm for wine and food.

Qualifications:
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards of customer service.
  • Basic knowledge of dining room and service procedures and functions.
  • Basic knowledge and passion for wine, wine service, winemaking, and wine education.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively.
  • Able to handle money and operate a point-of-sale system.
  • Twenty-one years of age or older; ability to pass RAMP training.
  • Restaurant and/or Wine Tasting Room experience a plus.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, lift, and bend for up to 10 hours a day.
  • Weekends, holidays, and evenings are required.


Duties and Responsibilities:

General:

  • Oversee opening and closing tasks.
  • Act as interim Manager when the Restaurant Manager is absent.
  • Assist in training employees.
  • Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the mission of Vintner's Table/Folino Estate, LLC.
  • Monitor and observe guests' dining experience/wine tasting to ensure guests are satisfied with their food and service and respond promptly and courteously to correct any problems.
  • Collect payments from guests.
  • Take food or beverage orders from guests.
  • Check guests' identification to ensure they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages.
  • Serve food or beverages to guests and prepare dishes when expected.
  • Present menus to guests and answer questions about menu items, beverages, and other restaurant functions and services.
  • Inform guests of menu changes and specials and make recommendations you genuinely feel your guests will enjoy.
  • Clean tables or counters after guests have finished dining.
  • Prepare hot, cold, and mixed drinks for guests and chill bottles of wine.
  • Stock service areas with supplies such as coffee, food, and tableware.
  • Explain to guests how various menu items are prepared - be aware of menu items with potential allergens.
  • Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping and mopping floors, tidying up the server station, taking out the trash, and checking and cleaning the bathroom.
  • Bring wine selections to tables with appropriate glasses and pour wines for guests.
  • Garnish and decorate dishes in preparation for serving.
  • Describe and recommend Folino Estate wines to guests.
  • Sell wine and increase wine club memberships.
  • Conduct wine-tasting experiences for different size groups.
  • Attend special events and off-site tastings.
  • Oversee the opening/closing procedures.
  • Assist in inventory control and management of wines and retail items.
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings and offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Maintain all RAMP and PLCB qualifications.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time, including long shifts of 10 hours.
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • The work environment can be loud and busy at times.
