Associate Director of Development
Position Status: Full-time, exempt, hybrid eligible
Background Founded in 1986, the ESU Foundation is an independent affiliate of East Stroudsburg University dedicated to advancing the University’s initiatives and strategic priorities. The Foundation secures philanthropic support by cultivating lasting relationships with alumni, friends, and partners, and by responsibly stewarding assets to ensure long-term impact for ESU and its students.
Position Summary
The East Stroudsburg University Foundation, the 501(c) (3) affiliate of East Stroudsburg University, seeks a talented, experienced, and energetic development professional to serve as an Associate Director of Development. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development and Alumni Relations of The East Stroudsburg University Foundation, the Associate Director of Development, will develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to retain and expand the number of donors to the foundation’s annual fund, through active cultivation, appropriate solicitation and stewardship resulting in increased operating income for the Foundation, support for university priorities and growth in alumni participation rates.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of 150 - 200 prospects
- Qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects and donors with the capability of giving $25,000 or more over a 3 to 5-year period in line with established individual and team fundraising goals
- Solicit gifts through personal visits, follow up telephone calls and coordinated written correspondence
- Collaborate with Foundation departments, University officers, faculty, administrators and Athletics on fundraising strategies and campaigns
- Maintain a
- ccurate, timely records and contact reports in the database of records to facilitate repeated gifts and establish lifetime philanthropic partnershipsComplete and submit monthly expense reports, receipts, and invoices in a timely fashion
- Maintain knowledge of current best practices in the field of fundraising and advance understanding through professional development
- Participate in and assist where needed with cultivation events
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of relevant experience (development, sales, marketing, customer relations, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in a higher education or non-profit setting preferred, direct experience with fundraising and volunteer management
- Proven ability to solicit and close philanthropic gifts at the $25,000+ level, or equivalent experience in a related field such as sales
- Working knowledge of charitable giving tax laws
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to successfully interact and collaborate with varied constituencies in a professional manner, exhibiting excellent written and oral communication skills, team-building skills, and demonstrating tact, poise and diplomacy while working with a wide variety of personalities
- Ability to apply good judgment and proven responsible decision-making skills; sensitivity and discretion are required to deal with highly confidential alumni, parent, student, family, donor and prospect information
- Must be a detail-oriented, self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities to meet aggressive timelines and challenging deadlines
- Availability for frequent travel within and outside of the state of Pennsylvania, as well as occasional evening and weekend work
- Working knowledge of electronic mail, social media, virtual platforms, and calendars, the Windows environment, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook, and Raisers Edge or comparable databases

Foundation Office Student Associate
Position Status: part-time, non-exempt position of 20 hours per week, for students currently enrolled at East Stroudsburg University.
Position Summary:
The East Stroudsburg University Foundation, the 501(c)(3) affiliate of East Stroudsburg University, seeks an ESU student to assist with accounting, database and scholarship administration functions. Event support for alumni engagement, including planning, coordination and execution on the day of the event, is included. Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance and Administration, the student worker will also provide clerical support and perform other duties as assigned.
Accountabilities:
- Perform general office duties such as filing, typing, photocopying, and printing.
- Create labels and envelopes, and alphabetize files and data.
- Update Raiser’s Edge/Financial Edge database systems.
- Provide logistical support for on-campus alumni and Foundation stewardship events.
- Coordinate with Warrior Elite to help organize and gather volunteers at on-campus events.
- Organize hard-copy and electronic files.
- Complete other duties as assigned to meet fluctuating priorities.
Position Qualifications:
- Ideal candidate will be outgoing, detail-oriented, and possess the ability to multi-task.
- Must have proficiency with MS Office applications, internet and email.
- Possess the ability to work independently and with little supervision, while at the same time act as a team player.
- Must have strong organizational and planning skills.
- Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
- Must be able to commit 20 hours per week.
- Successful completion of standard background checks.
- Must have the flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
- Comfortable with making calls to alumni and donors.
- Exercise professionalism and discretion in working with confidential information.
