Position Summary

The Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer is the chief financial officer of Eastern Pennsylvania and its affiliates. The responsibilities of the Conference CFO/Treasurer are outlined here in this job description and further elaborated in The Book of Discipline, ¶619. The CFO/Treasurer leads EPA to develop financial, property, and administrative best practices. The CFO/Treasurer leads the Finance, Benefits, Properties, and Administration staff to provide accurate and timely analysis, reports, and recommendations to the staff executive team and agencies so that informed decisions are made to grow EPA financial resources and develop best management practices. The following description adds and amplifies the responsibilities in the Book of Discipline but does not eliminate or alter what is outlined in the Book of Discipline.

Essential Functions

· Lead the finance, benefits, and property teams so that tasks are done accurately and on time and EPA staff leaders always have a clear understanding of EPA’s financial position.

· Supervise the Controller, Benefits Manager, and Property Manager.

· Work closely with Council on Finance and Administration to ensure proper financial policies and procedures are carried out.

· Prepare annually a financial plan so that EPA elected and staff leaders make prudent financial decisions during each fiscal year.

· Assess and analyze financial position, practices, and procedures and develop and carry out plans to improve the financial position, procedures, reporting, and technology of EPA.

· Work with and provide financial services to EPA mission partners (EPA Board of Camp and Retreat Ministries, EPA Loan Fund, Metro Ministries, The MidAtlantic Foundation, Bradley Fund) so that the financial health of EPA and its mission partners continues to be strengthened.

· Coordinate and ensure all conference property and liability insurances including Conference, camps, and local churches are maintained and appropriately insured so that we limit our liability and new sources of income are cultivated to grow mission and ministry.

· Review and recommend insurance programs to appropriate agencies so that EPA receives quality service, fiscal prudence, and budgetary savings.

· Oversee and ensure that EPA’s pension funding and payments through Wespath for clergy and lay staff are collected and paid on time and adequate reserves are maintained.

· Lead staff and volunteers to train congregational leadership in financial and administrative reporting so that best practices are followed, and reports are completed accurately and on time by congregations, conference agencies and mission partners.

Organization Responsibilities

· Serve as Treasurer for all Mission Partners (EPA Board of Camp and Retreat Ministries, EPA Loan Fund, Metro Ministries, The MidAtlantic Foundation, Bradley Fund)

· Serve as the Executive Director of Board of Benefits

· Attend EPA meetings and events as needed and appropriate

Qualifications

· Minimum of five years managing a $15 million or more budget for non-profit as a chief financial officer

· Minimum of five years leading and supervising five or more staff in a cross functional business model

· CPA preferred

· Knowledge of and familiarity with the United Methodist Church structure and polity preferred

Education

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar field

· MBA preferred

Travel

This position requires extensive travel within Eastern Pennsylvania, and some travel outside the region with evening and occasional weekend meetings via Zoom.

This position is hybrid with the main office located in Norristown, PA.

Starting salary: $120K plus benefits
