Mechanical Engineering Manager (Fort Washington)

Avo Photonics () is a dynamic contract engineering services company that designs, develops, and manufactures custom opto-electronic products for a large customer base. Members of our staff have the opportunity to design, prototype and produce next generation products for a diverse range of markets including environmental, medical, military, industrial, aerospace, and communications.

We seek a diligent, dedicated, and meticulous manager who will help to further our success and reputation in the industry. The successful candidate must plan his/her own work schedule to meet project deadlines, keep multiple records, be self-motivated and detail oriented, maintain a professional presence, and have the desire to take ownership of projects.

Specifically:

• Manage and level-load the Team of Mechanical Engineers such that all are engaged, producing, and growing in skills
• Review daily the concepts, designs, approaches, choices, and decisions being made by Mechanical Engineers and through demonstrated intuition, direct the proper path for each product design
• Ensure each customer’s unique mechanical design requirements are understood by Engineers and converted into a mechanical and thermal design meeting or exceeding product requirements
• Ensure the derived mechanical designs meet the highest standards for innovation, quality, and manufacturability
• Through awareness of each Engineer’s daily activities, ensure work effort on each program falls within the time allocated and communicated by the Program Manager
• Establish knowledge base between Engineering and Process Engineering to enable successful realization of derived designs using Avo tools and techniques
• Participate in internal design reviews, be accountable for deriving a product design, and guide assembly and test stations that yield a manufacturable, high yield, and economical way to meet the product requirements.
• Critically review Avo’s mechanical design capabilities in terms of modeling and thermal, stress, and vibration analysis and provide recommendations for enhancing capabilities

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
• 10 years of professional work experience, photonics industry preferred
• Expert in using Solidworks Mechanical Design Software
• In-Depth knowledge of thermo-mechanical properties of materials used in product designs
• Demonstrated ability to manage technical personnel
• Demonstrated organizational skills
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
