GIS Technician

The County of Blair is seeking a dedicated individual to fill the position of GIS Technician. This candidate will edit, interpret and update the Blair County Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data. Develop and maintain procedures for the update of said system, including data, analysis procedures, map production, and automation processes. Coordinates with counterparts in Assessment Office to maintain data and process integrity as assigned or on an as-needed basis.

Specific duties include accurate development and maintenance of County GIS data in accordance with current standards and protocols, maintains a thorough understanding of Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) system and its integration with the GIS and Assessment Offices, digitizes/translates various data to construct and attribute spatial and non-spatial data. Identifies and rectifies/escalates errors with existing data as required, corresponds with members of the public, attorneys, surveyors, realtors, municipal officials, and other internal or external stakeholders in response to inquiries regarding data under purview, builds and maintains web-based GIS tools, maps, and data layers to support information

Requirements

Qualified applicants will have high school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree in GIS reflecting 12 or more credits in GIS courses strongly preferred. Work experience able to be considered in lieu of education. One year’s work experience in GIS, data analytics, or related field required. Use of ESRI suite of software products a substantial plus. Capacity to independently evaluate and make determinations regarding data quality. General knowledge of computer system design. Programming experience beneficial but not required.
