Hatchery Worker
Job Summary
Perform a variety of duties related to the monitoring and care for developer and market birds. The individual will assist when required in response to emergencies, disease, daily tasks, vaccination etc.
Essential Job Functions
The essential duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Monitor incubators to ensure correct operation and maintain appropriate temperatures for optimal egg incubation.
· Assist in the accurate tracking of incoming and outgoing egg shipments, including placing eggs on trays and loading trays into incubators.
· Respond promptly to all alarms and take appropriate action during shifts to address any issues.
· Wash, select, and inspect eggs before transferring them to the incubator. Transfer eggs between incubators and hatchers as needed.
· Clean and sanitize the hatchery facility and equipment regularly to maintain company standards.
· Pull and count babies from hatcher baskets into boxes.
· Separate fertile and infertile eggs using the candling process to optimize hatch rates.
· Ensure strict adherence to biosecurity protocols to prevent the spread of diseases and maintain the health of hatchery stock.
· Follow Good Manufacturing Practices.
· Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal codes and regulations.
· Report any potential Food Safety issues to management immediately.
· Report any damages to company vehicles, equipment, and buildings via maintenance work order software program through lead or manager.
· Report any animal welfare concerns to management immediately and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
· Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
· Comply with all company policies and procedures.
Minimum Required Qualifications
The minimum require qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Basic Math Skills
· High School Diploma or GED preferred.
· Prior experience in a manufacturing/production facility required; poultry preferred.
· Strong teamwork skills with a willingness to assist others.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to satisfy all assigned work schedules and comply with all time and attendance policies.
· Ability to comply with all company policies and procedures.
Physical Demands
The physical requirements/environmental factors for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
· Must be able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed.
· Must be able use both hands for simple/firm grasping.
· The ability to safely ascend/descend stairs.
· The ability to move 50 pounds alone and over 50 pounds with assistance constantly.
· Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles (including duck fluff), hazardous chemicals, and ammonia.
· Noise level may be loud at times.
