Job Purpose: The Pittsburgh Symphony seeks a passionate and motivated Group Sales and Community Relations Manager to expand our audience base by building relationships with community organizations, businesses, and other groups. This position is crucial in driving group ticket sales while fostering connections that enhance the orchestra's engagement and visibility within the community. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic advocate for the arts with strong sales, communication, and relationship-building skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Group Sales & Outreach:
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow group ticket sales, meeting or exceeding weekly and monthly sales goals.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with corporations, schools, senior centers, community organizations, and other prospective group clients.
  • Make a minimum of 20 touchpoints (including a minimum of 10 phone calls) each day to generate new sales and revenue through self-generated and provided leads.
  • Proactively seek new leads through referrals, prospecting, and networking.
  • Maintain detailed records of clients and prospects in the CRM system (Tessitura).
  • Maintain an active pipeline of leads and provide exceptional customer service to ensure repeat group sales.
  • Coordinate and execute group sales promotions, special events, and targeted outreach initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Marketing team to develop collateral and campaigns to support group sales efforts.
  • Track sales progress, generate reports, and analyze sales trends to refine strategies.
Community Relations & Engagement:
  • Establish and nurture partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and cultural institutions to increase awareness and participation in orchestra events.
  • Represent the orchestra at community events, networking opportunities, and other outreach activities.
  • Collaborate with Education and Learning teams to create re-engagement opportunities for students and families attending Schooltime, Fiddlesticks, and other family-oriented programming.
  • Assist in coordinating community engagement activities such as educational events, collaborations, and special performances.
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance patron experience and increase audience retention.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Arts Administration, Communications, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in group sales, audience development, community outreach, or a related field.
  • Passion for the arts and a strong belief in the value of live orchestral music.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a talent for relationship-building.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in CRM/ticketing systems (Tessitura) preferred.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required for concerts and events.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to operate related equipment, i.e., computer, copier, scanner
Compensation and Location: This is a full-time position with an annual salary range between $47,000 - $53,000 depending upon experience, plus bonus. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes paid holidays, paid time off, employer paid health benefits, as well as retirement savings options with an employer match. Heinz Hall in downtown Pittsburgh is the work location for this position. The PSO supports a flexible, hybrid work environment, which currently includes three days per week in-person work, including work on weekends and evenings during PSO and Heinz Hall concerts or events.
