What's the role

The Junior Dean of Culture is a highly visible, proactive leader who drives joy, safety, and belonging while holding students to high academic and behavioral expectations. This is a floor-level leadership role as much as it is a management role: the Associate Dean will be present in hallways, at arrival and dismissal, at lunch, during transitions, and at school events.

Reporting to and partnering with the Director of Culture, this role bridges direct student support and strategic culture leadership. The Junior Dean of Culture directly supervises and coaches Culture Associates, manages school-wide culture systems, and takes ownership of proactively planning meaningful student experiences — from incentive programs to field trips and community events. Equally important, this leader builds proactive, trusting relationships with students and families throughout the year — not only when concerns arise. The ideal candidate brings a balance of warmth and firmness, organizational skill and creativity, and a genuine love of children.

Candidates for this position do NOT need to speak Hebrew. The school is eager to consider applications from traditionally underrepresented groups.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Culture Staff Management

  • Supervise, coach, and develop Culture Associates, providing regular feedback and professional support
  • Model a high-urgency, high-care approach to culture work and collaborate with the Director of Culture on staffing, scheduling, and team priorities
  • Partner with teachers and the school social workers on classroom management and behavioral interventions
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive staff culture that reflects PHP's mission and values

Student Experience & Proactive Programming

  • Plan and execute meaningful school-wide student experiences: incentive celebrations, field trips, spirit days, assemblies, and monthly community gatherings
  • Design and manage a school-wide incentive system tied to effort, attendance, and character growth
  • Lead classroom circles, community meetings, and SEL programming in partnership with teachers
  • Serve as a creative driver of school joy — generating new ideas to celebrate students and build community

Student Support, Family Outreach & Behavioral Management

  • Be highly present and visible throughout the school day — hallways, arrival, dismissal, lunch, and transitions — to reinforce expectations and prevent escalation
  • Implement PHP's restorative discipline practices, issuing logical consequences with consistency and care
  • Develop individualized support plans for students with frequent behavioral infractions or chronic absenteeism
  • Lead Zones of Regulation and other SEL tools; support individual behavior plans with the social worker and SPED team
  • Provide ongoing student mentorship; participate in crisis prevention and de-escalation as needed
  • Proactively engage families throughout the year — not only in response to concerns — via phone calls, home visits, and conferences
  • Serve as a bridge between students, families, and the instructional team, facilitating collaborative problem-solving
  • Leading late pick up and detention after school

Data, Attendance & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records across behavior, attendance, and culture data; enter into Kickboard with timeliness
  • Track trends, develop individualized attendance plans, and ensure compliance with state reporting requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Culture or school leadership

Who you are

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a school setting serving K–8 students
  • Demonstrated success working with students from diverse and underserved backgrounds
  • Experience building meaningful relationships with students, families, and school staff
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through
  • Excellent communication skills — written, verbal, and interpersonal
  • Mission-driven, with an unshakable belief that all children can succeed
  • Growth mindset and openness to feedback and continuous improvement
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Prior experience supervising or mentoring staff

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Education, School Counseling, or related field
  • Expertise in restorative practices and/or Responsive Classroom framework
  • Familiarity with behavior management platforms (e.g., Kickboard)
  • Experience planning student events, field trips, or enrichment programming
