Emergency Veterinarian Mentorship Program
BluePearl Pet Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA is proud to offer our Emergency Veterinarian Mentorship Training Program, EmERge . Our EmERge program helps you obtain the skills and the confidence that you need to be a successful Emergency Veterinarian at one of our state-of-the-art hospitals. The program is offered beginning in January and in June annually.
What you Need to be considered for BluePearl’s EmERge program:
- You must be a graduate of an AVMA accredited veterinary school.
- You must have passed (or pending) the NAVLE.
- You must have (or be eligible for) a license to practice in the state of interest.

Program Structure :
EmERge is a one-year training program, followed by a one-year post-EmERge commitment. The EmERge program is divided into 3 phases:
Phase 1 (Weeks 1-14):
- 4 Weeks of Bootcamp : A combination of virtual (Weeks 1-2) and in-person (Weeks 3-4) training to build foundational emergency medicine skills.
- 2 Weeks of Specialty Rotations : Gain exposure to various specialties to enhance your understanding and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.
- 8 Weeks of ER Shifts : Apply your training in a real-world setting under the mentorship of experienced emergency clinicians.
Phase 2 (Weeks 15-32):
- Increased Responsibility : Transition to managing more complex cases with greater independence while still receiving guidance from mentors.
- ER Shift Focus : Work full shifts in the ER, continuing to develop critical thinking and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Ongoing Mentorship : Regular check-ins with mentors to review cases, address challenges, and refine clinical skills.
- Exposure to Diverse Cases : Handle a variety of emergency cases to broaden expertise and build confidence in emergency medicine.
- Ongoing Didactics : Participate in a weekly webinar series designed to enhance your learning and keep you updated on the latest practices in emergency veterinary medicine.
Phase 3 (Weeks 33-52):
- Independent Case Management : Take on full responsibility for managing emergency cases, showcasing confidence and competence in clinical decision-making.
- Continued Collaboration : Work alongside the hospital team to provide exceptional patient care while honing leadership and communication skills.
- Advanced Skill Application : Apply advanced diagnostic and procedural skills gained throughout the program to handle high-acuity cases.
- Mentor Support : Maintain access to mentor guidance as needed, ensuring continued growth and support.
- Ongoing Didactics : Participate in a weekly webinar series designed to enhance your learning and keep you updated on the latest practices in emergency veterinary medicine.
BluePearl is proud to offer real-world salary for EmERge :
- Phase one salary (Weeks 1-14): $120,000
- Phase two salary (Weeks 15-32): $120,000
- Phase three salary (Weeks 33-52): full-time ER Clinician market rate salary plus quarterly production bonus

- Comprehensive multi-specialty and referral hospital in Western Pennsylvania with over 30 specialists in 10 different specialties.
- 35,000 square-foot facility opened in 2008 and offers several advanced treatment and diagnostic services, including high-field 1.5T MRI, on-site 64 slice CT, linear accelerator, 4 ultrasound machines, video endoscopy, digital radiography, C-arm fluoroscopy, ECG telemetry, and dedicated suites for endoscopy, ultrasound, and oncology.
