Hatchery Driver
Job Summary
The main objective of this role is to drive to producer breeders barns for egg pickup/delivery, delivery of babies in non CDL vehicles as well as perform essential job functions within the Hatchery.
The essential duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Operate straight truck or van to transport eggs over short and long distances.
· Load eggs onto the truck or van to transport them back to the hatchery and unload them at the hatchery in a timely manner to ensure they are staying at the correct temperature.
· Ensure incubators and hatchers are operating correctly (temperature, humidity, fans, etc.), report any issues immediately.
· Respond to alarms during shift.
· Transfer eggs from incubator to hatcher and set eggs from egg cooler to incubator.
· Assist the team in all regular Hatchery functions, egg handling/processing, egg sets egg transfers, duckling processing and general cleanup/ sanitation in compliance with company standards.
· Responsible for daily yard checks of equipment for proper conditions, fuel levels and temperatures.
· Responsible for daily pre and post trip logs completed when operating vehicle.
· Ensure all paperwork is filled out in a clean, legible, accurate format and properly completed with all required information.
· Operate forklift to assist with dumping of hatchery byproduct and to transport supplies needed by the hatchery when directed.
· Follow all biosecurity and Animal Welfare Policies
· Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal codes and regulations.
· Report any animal welfare related issues to management immediately.
· Report any potential Food Safety issues to management immediately.
· Report any damages to company vehicles, equipment, and buildings via maintenance work order software program.
· Comply with all company policies and procedures.
Minimum Required Qualifications
The minimum required qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Valid driver’s license required. Clean driving record with no legal or safety incidents on record required.
· Required to comply with all applicable DOT Driver regulations, including passing DOT background check, drug screen and medical examination.
· Advanced knowledge operating manual and automatic trucks.
· Certified to operate a forklift.
· Alert, focused, and detail oriented.
· Outstanding communication skills.
· Ability to independently make decisions with minimum supervision.
· Ability to multitask and effectively prioritize workload.
· Strong teamwork skills with a willingness to assist others.
· Ability to comply with all company policies and procedures.
Physical Demands
The physical requirements/environmental factors for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Must be able to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
· Ability to exit equipment by stepping, climbing, kneeling.
· Must be able to crouch and squat for pre and post trip inspections.
· Must be able to sit and drive truck frequently and for long periods.
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance and 80 pounds with assistance.
· Must be able to bend, stretch, push, pull and move as needed.
· Must be able to use hands for simple/firm grasping.
· Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and ammonia.
