Overview
The Great Frame Up in Wayne, PA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Picture Framer to join our established custom framing studio. This role is ideal for a professional who takes pride in craftsmanship, delivers a polished retail experience, and thrives in a creative, client-focused environment.
As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for museum-quality custom framing , engaging directly with customers, and supporting the overall success of the shop. We are looking for someone who not only excels at framing, but also brings insight into product development, merchandising, and marketing initiatives to help grow and refine our offerings.
Key Responsibilities
Custom Framing & Craftsmanship
- Design and produce high-quality custom framing for artwork, photography, memorabilia, and objects
- Guide customers through design choices that complement and enhance their pieces
- Perform precise cutting, assembly, and finishing using professional equipment
- Work with a wide range of materials including archival mats, conservation glass, and specialty mouldings
- Handle artwork with care, ensuring preservation and presentation standards are consistently met
- Maintain a high level of quality control and attention to detail in every project
Retail & Customer Experience
- Provide a welcoming, consultative experience tailored to each customer
- Translate customer ideas into thoughtful, well-designed framing solutions
- Accurately quote projects, write orders, and manage timelines
- Operate the POS system and assist with daily shop operations, including opening/closing
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing showroom
- Build strong customer relationships that encourage repeat business
Product Development & Merchandising
- Contribute ideas for new product offerings, framing styles, and package options
- Assist in developing and refining in-store sample displays and design boards
- Stay informed on framing trends and customer preferences
- Evaluate moulding and material options for quality, aesthetic appeal, and profitability
Marketing & Business Support
- Support in-store merchandising and visual presentation
- Assist with local marketing efforts, promotions, or community engagement initiatives
- Contribute ideas for social media or content that highlights craftsmanship and design
- Provide feedback on customer trends, seasonal demand, and pricing strategy
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of professional custom framing experience (retail shop experience preferred)
- Strong knowledge of framing techniques, materials, and conservation practices
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage projects from design through completion
- Interest or experience in product development, retail merchandising, or marketing
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team environment
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in a custom framing shop or design-oriented retail setting
- Background in art, design, or a related field
- Familiarity with framing design software and POS systems
- Experience with visual merchandising or retail display setup
