About the Position

Correctional Registered Nurse

Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Correctional Facility
Shift: 2nd Shift, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Location: Coal Township, PA
Schedule: Every other weekend

Minimum Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license or temporary practice permit issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
• Ability to enter health data into electronic medical records.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

Role Description

The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care in a correctional or residential facility for individuals with mental or physical injuries, illnesses, dysfunctional behavior, or developmental disabilities. Responsibilities include:

Charge Nurse Duties:

• Direct and coordinate nursing care for patients or residents in assigned areas.
• Supervise paraprofessional and non-professional nursing staff.
• Manage staffing, supplies, and equipment needs.
• Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with federal and state regulations.

Assessment Coordinator Duties:

• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and families to assess residents’ conditions.
• Complete required documentation for care and treatment plans.

Staff Nurse Duties:

• Provide professional nursing care in assigned patient or specialty areas.
• Participate in quality assurance, infection control, and other specialty programs.
• Administer medications, treatments, and therapies within scope of practice.

Competency Requirements:
Nurses must be competent in a range of clinical skills, including but not limited to:

• Medication administration (oral, topical, IM, subcutaneous, intradermal, suppository)
• IV therapy, venipuncture, heparin lock management, use of infusion pumps
• Airway management, oxygen therapy, suctioning, ventilator care, CPR
• Wound care, dressing changes, ostomy care, catheter care and insertion
• Neurological checks, vital signs, full body assessments, mental status exams
• Emergency procedures, restraints, and crisis interventions
• Documentation in EMR and Medication Administration Records
• Other specialized procedures as required for patient care
