SALARY RANGE: $65,000 to $70,000

Position Summary:
The research project manager will assist with an extramurally funded project aimed at quantifying the spinal control of motor output of the mammalian motor system along with other experiments conducted in Dr. Christopher Thompson's lab in the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. The incumbent will take a leading role in project management and data analysis. The incumbent will work with Dr. Thompson and other collaborators within and outside of the department on the interpretation and dissemination of this work. The incumbent will also assist in the training of postdocs and graduate and undergraduate students.

Required Education and Experience:
*PhD in motor systems neuroscience or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience:
*4 years' training as a postdoctoral fellow.
*4 years of experience with large animal electrophysiology
*8 years of experience with human electromyography and biomechanics
*15 published manuscripts in motor systems neuroscience with 10 being first or senior author

Required Skills and Abilities:
*Ability to perform experiments in both human and large animal models
*Expertise in electrophysiological (e.g., surface and indwelling electromyography) and biomechanical (e.g., force plate recordings) techniques.
*Ability to present scientific data in the form of oral presentations and written manuscripts.

Essential duties:
*Design, plan, and execute human and animal experiments investigating spinal and supraspinal of posture and movement.
*Conduct human subject research, including participant recruitment, informed consent, experimental setup, data collection, participant monitoring, and debriefing, ensuring compliance with ethical and safety standards.
*Instrument participants using biomechanical and electrophysiological techniques, including force plates, 3D motion capture systems, and surface and intramuscular electromyography (EMG).
*Acquire high-quality physiological and biomechanical data and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure signal integrity suitable for advanced offline analysis.
*Perform animal research procedures, including pre-experimental care, surgical preparation (e.g., electrode implantation), and collection of electrophysiological and mechanical data.
*Process and analyze complex datasets using computational tools (e.g., MATLAB, R Studio), including EMG decomposition, motor unit spike train analysis, neural signal processing, and statistical analyses applied to biological signals.
*Conduct detailed manual and semi-automated data curation, including artifact rejection and spike train refinement for both human and animal neurophysiological data.
*Manage and organize experimental data, ensuring proper storage, documentation, and reproducibility of analyses.
*Interpret experimental results and translate findings into scientific outputs, including peer-reviewed manuscripts and conference presentations.
*Mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate research assistants during experimental setup, data collection, and analysis.
*Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams and contribute to ongoing project development and experimental design.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
