Under supervision, to perform routine gardening and grounds work in maintaining lawns, parks, and other landscaped areas; and to do other related work as required.

Employment Classification: Non-Exempt

Qualifications: Groundskeeper is an entry-level classification, typically requiring close supervision.

Reports To: Center Director

Job Goal: The Groundskeeper will play a critical role in maintaining the campus grounds consistently, aligned with the agency's mission of providing safe, clean learning environments for consumers and employees alike. Managing time efficiently, the position requires working independently when supervision is not present. Handling basic maintenance, building repairs, cleaning, and other janitorial work including the ability to use basic cleaning equipment and storing chemicals safely, away from the staff, consumers, and the general public.

Performance Responsibilities and Duties:

· Collects litter, and irrigates turf areas using sprinklers and hoses;

· Sweeps, mops, and washes restrooms, stage, classrooms, and gym floor;

· Sweeps and mops building floors; rakes leaves;

· Hoes weeds from flower beds and other garden areas;

· Trims turf areas, shrubs, hedges, and ivy; mows turf using both self-powered and hand-operated equipment;

· Prunes tree limbs;

· Lifts and dumps garbage cans;

· Performs routine maintenance on power equipment;

· Repairs sprinklers;

· Removes debris from parking lot and street curbs area;

· Maintains playground equipment, picnic tables, and other outdoor items; plants and transplants shrubs, trees, and flowers, as needed;

· Makes minor repairs on equipment, furnishings, and other agency properties;

· Applies insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizers using a garden sprayer;

· Performs other job-related duties as required.

· Ability to lift at least 25 pounds.

Employment Standards

Any combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge and abilities: Knowledge of the basic principles of operation of a gasoline-powered engine, knowledge of good public relations practices; knowledge of common garden tools; knowledge of common hand tools; ability to read and follow instructions as written in equipment manuals; ability to recognize unsafe equipment and unsafe conditions; ability to operate equipment which requires the shifting of gears; ability to understand and follow oral instructions; ability to recognize the need for watering and to determine the amount of water required; ability to lift or move heavy objects.

Possession of a Valid Class Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.

• Cleaning and stocking restrooms
• Ensuring doors are locked after hours
• Cleaning up spills with appropriate equipment
• Performing minor repairs
• Notifying supervisors or managers of major repairs or hazards.
