• Shift/Hours: 2nd Shift — 3:00pm start, 8-hour shifts with rotating weekends

Job Summary

The Medical Technician (Traveler) performs routine and moderate-complexity laboratory testing to support clinical diagnostics under the supervision of Medical Technologists and Laboratory Leadership. This role involves setting up automated test systems, processing specimens, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring compliance with laboratory regulations while delivering accurate and timely results.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory tests following department SOPs and approved analytical procedures.

• Follow established protocols for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and recordkeeping .

• Maintain documentation demonstrating that proficiency samples are processed identically to patient specimens.

• Analyze specimens using approved equipment and manual procedures requiring independent judgment.

• Review and release test results in accordance with laboratory standards.

• Comply with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and internal laboratory safety guidelines .

• Document quality control activities, calibrations, instrument maintenance, and procedural updates.

• Follow policies whenever systems fall outside acceptable performance levels and document corrective actions.

• Identify and troubleshoot problems affecting test performance, escalating to senior technologists or supervisors as needed.

• Report critical results according to department procedures.

• Maintain complete and accurate records of all testing performed onsite.

• Ensure proper labeling, dating, and tracking of reagents and test kits.

• Participate in new procedure training, monthly department meetings, and mandatory safety training.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory work environment.

• May perform moderate-complexity testing with appropriate onsite training.

• Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.

Required Experience

• BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or an Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology

• 1–3 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred

• Ability to set work priorities and manage multiple tasks

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

• Customer service skills for internal and external client interaction

• Must maintain patient confidentiality at all times

• Laboratory safety compliance (CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA)

• Automated analyzer operation

• Moderate-complexity testing experience

• Troubleshooting and corrective action documentation
