Job Description
This position seeks a skilled carpenter with 3–5 years of hands-on commercial and/or residential experience to support a variety of construction projects. The ideal candidate brings a strong mix of rough-in and finish carpentry skills, can read and interpret blueprints, and is comfortable working across multiple phases of construction. You will contribute on active job sites, work independently when needed, and take direction from a lead or foreman to help deliver high-quality results.
Responsibilities
- Perform rough-in carpentry, including wood and metal stud framing, layout, blocking, and backing for commercial and residential projects.
- Complete finish carpentry tasks such as installing doors, trim, hardware, and basic cabinetry as needed.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and layout plans to perform work accurately and according to specifications.
- Install framing for walls, ceilings, soffits, and openings in line with project requirements and industry standards.
- Assist with hanging drywall and related preparation work depending on project scope.
- Coordinate with other trades on site to ensure proper layout, sequencing of work, and overall jobsite efficiency.
- Safely operate common hand and power tools required for carpentry and construction tasks.
- Work on ladders, lifts, or scaffolding when required to complete elevated or hard-to-reach work areas.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with jobsite safety standards.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance, follow instructions from leads or foremen, and contribute consistently to project timelines.
Essential Skills
- 3–5 years of hands-on carpentry experience in commercial and/or residential construction.
- Proficiency in both rough-in and finish carpentry work.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and layout plans.
- Strong measurement skills and the ability to measure and cut materials accurately.
- Working knowledge of common carpentry materials, including lumber, plywood, metal studs, and track.
- Ability to work safely and effectively on ladders, lifts, or scaffolding when required.
- Reliable attendance, strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently or under direction from a lead or foreman.
- Capability to safely use common hand and power tools used in carpentry.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with commercial projects such as fit-outs, office spaces, warehouses, or multi-family buildings.
- Experience with residential projects including single-family homes, townhomes, renovations, and cabinetry.
- Experience in framing, drywall installation, and preparation.
- Demonstrated skill in finish carpentry, including detailed trim and hardware installation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other trades on active construction sites.

Work Environment
This role is based on active construction sites, supporting both commercial and residential projects. Work is primarily field-based and involves exposure to typical construction conditions, including varying weather and outdoor environments. You will use standard construction tools and equipment and may work at heights using ladders, lifts, or scaffolding as required. The dress code is practical and safety-focused, with attire appropriate for construction work and prevailing weather conditions.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Reading, PA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
