Safety Advisor
Provides strategic guidance on compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations. Oversees critical and strategic projects that have increased leadership visibility. Contributes to the development and continuous improvement of safety policies, procedures, and programs in response to evolving regulations and industry best practices.
Essential Functions
Assists in developing long-term strategic safety plans to improve organizational performance.
Leads proof-of-concept safety initiatives to assess operational feasibility and evaluate return on investment (ROI) for scalable implementation.
Advises on complex, high-level safety questions and projects and supports the development of long-term safety strategies, policies, and programs in response to evolving regulations and industry trends.
Provides practical application and compliance guidance in regulatory areas such as CSA/DOT, FAA/IATA, OSHA, and HazMat.
Works closely with Legal to ensure all regulatory communications are accurate, compliant, and approved; supports preparation for legal proceedings and may serve as a participant in depositions when necessary.
Delivers expert-level knowledge and targeted solutions to improve safety performance and positively impact organizational results.
Establishes and maintains cross-functional relationships to support safety programs, concerns and initiatives across the organization.
Investigates serious injuries and accidents and prepares detailed reports with actionable recommendations to prevent recurrence, as necessary.
Provides guidance on the development, interpretation, and improvement of company safety metrics to drive performance.
Leverages company systems to plan, monitor, and manage work, ensuring alignment with business objectives and driving results.
Prepares clear, concise communications and reports to keep field operations and executives informed of program updates, project milestones, and outcomes.
Performs other duties as assigned to support organizational safety objectives.
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Human Science, Logistics/Transportation, Engineering, Business Management, or a related field is required. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, a high school diploma or GED plus four (4) years of relevant experience in Safety, Human Science, Logistics/Transportation, Engineering, Business Management, or a related field may be accepted, in addition to the minimum experience requirements outlined below. Master's degree preferred.
Minimum Experience:
Seven (7) years of experience in Industrial/Occupational Safety, Commercial Truck Fleet Vehicle Safety, Logistics/Transportation, Surface Operations Safety, Network Operations Safety, or Air Operations Safety is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and industry trends related to industrial/occupational safety.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
Strong presentation skills to facilitate training and deliver informational sessions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain complex and/or confidential information with various levels of management.
Effective time management and organizational skills to manage multiple projects, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.
Ability to build professional rapport and positively influence diverse groups.
OSHA Advisor: OSHA professional and/or OSHA certification preferred.
DOT Advisor: Transportation safety background and/or DOT Compliance Certification preferred.
HAZMAT Manager: Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) preferred
Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and/or Certified Director of Safety (CDS) preferred.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience in institutional or corporate communications with an emphasis on communication planning/analysis and exposure to print and non-print media strategies. Ability to study complex data and broad business strategy and convert into practical, creative and effective communication strategies. Highly proficient analytical, problem-solving, organization, creativity, grammar, writing and human relations/relation management skills.

Pay: $6,511.62/mo - $11,309.65/mo
