Cnc Operator
Job Title: CNC Operator – (2nd and 3rd Shift)
Job Description
This role focuses on learning and operating Salvagnini systems with an emphasis on automated shearing and punching operations. You will program, set up, and run multipurpose CNC equipment to meet production schedules, ensure parts meet specifications, and support continuous improvement through preventive maintenance and process optimization. The position requires strong attention to detail, comfort with industrial machinery, and the ability to work effectively on 2nd or 3rd shift in a clean manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Learn and operate Salvagnini systems with a primary focus on shearing and punching operations.
- Program, set up, and operate multipurpose CNC machines to perform automated punching, shearing, and related operations according to production schedules and established standards.
- Generate and report weekly Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) results to support production performance monitoring.
- Inspect production parts for conformance to specifications, including performing first-piece inspections and making necessary adjustments.
- Operate DNC-controlled shear, punch, forming machines, laser, and automated warehouse systems.
- Use punches, dies, measuring tape, hand tools, digital protractors, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring equipment to ensure accurate production.
- Select, load, and stage raw material required for production and initiate machine operations.
- Interface with computer systems for production control, program editing, preventive maintenance activities, and SAP-related tasks.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, including oiling, lubrication, and other tasks following the F&L Process and Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) practices.
- Assist in identifying root causes of production errors and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain and rebuild tooling, monitor tooling inventory, coordinate ordering of new tooling, and maintain inventory of spare parts and consumables.
- Monitor steel inventory, load steel into machines, and ensure material availability for continuous production.
- Coordinate with Purchasing to ensure sufficient raw material inventory to meet production requirements.
- Manage input and output of raw materials into the automated warehouse, oversee work in process within the automated warehouse, and support scrap utilization and scrap hopper management.
- Remove completed parts from the end of the line, place them in carts or racks, and deliver them to the next operation or designated area.
- Provide feedback to manufacturing personnel on production status, system operation, maintenance needs, and overall system performance.
- Apply TPM and 5S training to maintain an organized, efficient, and safe work area.
- Audit and edit CNC programs and nesting layouts as needed to optimize production and part quality.
Essential Skills
- Experience operating CNC machinery, including setup and production on equipment such as punch presses, press brakes, and related sheet metal machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings for machining and sheet metal operations.
- Proficiency in machine setup, including selecting tooling, setting parameters, and verifying first-piece quality.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices for CNC and related industrial equipment.
- Basic mathematical skills to perform measurements, calculations, and dimensional checks.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and digital protractors.
- Familiarity with sheet metal operations, including punching, forming, and brake press work.
- Capability to work from and follow detailed work instructions, standards, and production schedules.
- Comfort using computer-based systems for production control, program editing, and maintenance tracking.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with Salvagnini systems or similar automated punching and shearing equipment.
- Exposure to SAP or similar ERP systems for production and inventory management.
- Experience with Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) and 5S methodologies in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to troubleshoot production issues and participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, particularly in first-piece and in-process inspections.
- Willingness to work 2nd shift (approximately 2:30 p.m.–11:00 p.m.) or 3rd shift (approximately 11:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday).
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with manufacturing, maintenance, and purchasing teams.

Work Environment
The role is based in a fairly clean manufacturing environment with moderate noise levels typical of industrial equipment. Team members work on 2nd or 3rd shift schedules and operate CNC machinery, DNC-controlled equipment, lasers, and automated warehouse systems. The facility emphasizes safety and requires steel-toed boots, long pants, and safety glasses while on the shop floor. The environment supports structured preventive maintenance and 5S practices, and offers an onsite weight room for employees, contributing to a balanced and health-conscious workplace.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hanover, PA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.50 - $24.00/hr.
