Phlebotomist Job Details

• Employment Type: Travel Phlebotomist
• Location: On-site hospital laboratory in State College, Pennsylvania
• Duration: 13-week contract (August 22, 2025 – November 21, 2025)
• Hours per Week: 40
• Shift: Day and evening rotations; weekend and holiday coverage required
• Shift Duration: 8-hour shifts
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1300-$1330

Phlebotomist Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of a certified Phlebotomy program or equivalent
• Certified Phlebotomist (ASCP, AMT, CLSI, or equivalent certification)
• Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association)
• Minimum 1 year of phlebotomy experience (hospital laboratory experience preferred)
• Strong communication skills and a patient-focused attitude
• Ability to exercise mature judgment and collaborate with patients, healthcare staff, and visitors

Phlebotomist Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens from patients using venipuncture, arterial puncture, capillary puncture, and specialized techniques
• Verify patient identification prior to specimen collection for accurate laboratory testing
• Respond promptly to specimen collection requests and communicate effectively with clinical staff
• Perform bedside glucose testing and maintain quality control standards
• Prepare and label specimens for processing and deliver to appropriate laboratory departments
• Educate and assist patients with specimen collection (urine, sputum, chain of custody, etc.)
• Maintain clean and organized work areas and manage laboratory supplies
• Assist with distribution of laboratory reports and supplies as needed
• Follow safety, infection control, and quality assurance protocols
• Participate in laboratory operations to meet CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, and Pennsylvania Department of Health standards
• Contribute to laboratory service improvements and support new procedures or product evaluations
• Work weekends, holidays, and rotate shifts as required for full laboratory coverage
