Vice President of Content
Our client, a mission-driven media organization, is seeking a transformational Vice President of Content to lead the evolution of a modern, audience-centered media ecosystem across digital, broadcast, social, audio, newsletters, live experiences, and emerging platforms.
This is not a traditional newsroom leadership role.
The organization is looking for a strategic media executive who understands how content, audience behavior, technology, community engagement, and operational systems work together to drive growth, relevance, and long-term sustainability.
The ideal candidate has successfully led integrated media teams through transformation, understands digital-first audience engagement, and knows how to build scalable systems that connect journalism, storytelling, participation, and innovation into one cohesive strategy.

What This Role Will Lead
Integrated Media Strategy
Lead and unify content strategy across all platforms, ensuring editorial, creative, production, audience, and distribution teams operate within one coordinated ecosystem.
Develop scalable systems that strengthen audience experience, improve collaboration, and align content efforts with organizational growth goals.
Audience Growth & Engagement
Build audience-centered strategies that increase:
engagement,
retention,
repeat usage,
participation,
and long-term audience loyalty.
The right leader understands modern media consumption habits and knows how to create content ecosystems that encourage ongoing interaction across digital and community platforms.
Community Participation Models
Design structured frameworks for audience participation, contributor engagement, and collaborative storytelling.
Create scalable systems that allow community voices and partnerships to grow while maintaining editorial quality, trust, and operational consistency.
Organizational Transformation
Modernize workflows, operational structures, and cross-functional collaboration.
This role requires an executive who can:
reduce silos,
improve accountability,
streamline execution,
and implement scalable operating models within a fast-changing media environment.
AI & Emerging Media Innovation
Identify and implement AI-enabled workflows, emerging technologies, and modern publishing strategies that improve efficiency, scalability, audience engagement, and operational effectiveness.
A strong experimentation mindset and comfort with rapid iteration are essential.
MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE
Executive-Level Media Leadership
10+ years leading content, editorial, media, publishing, streaming, or integrated digital media organizations
Experience overseeing multi-platform content ecosystems at scale
Audience & Engagement Expertise
Proven success growing digital audiences, newsletters, memberships, subscriptions, engagement, retention, or participation-based platforms
Strong understanding of audience behavior, digital consumption trends, and engagement strategy
Organizational Transformation Experience
Demonstrated success redesigning workflows, integrating teams, and leading operational change
Experience building scalable systems within high-growth or evolving organizations
Digital-First Content Strategy
Deep understanding of:
digital publishing,
social ecosystems,
newsletters,
video,
livestreaming,
audio,
and emerging media formats
Community & Contributor Engagement
Experience developing audience participation initiatives, contributor ecosystems, or community-driven storytelling models
AI & Emerging Technology Fluency
Practical understanding of AI-assisted workflows and emerging technologies impacting media and content operations
Ability to leverage technology to improve efficiency, scalability, and audience experience
Executive Communication & Leadership
Strong executive presence with the ability to align stakeholders, lead teams through change, and translate strategy into execution
Comfortable operating in ambiguity while driving clarity, accountability, and momentum
