THE POSITION
Wayne County Children and Youth Services is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Independent Living Caseworker. This role involves providing case management and support to youth, assisting them in developing skills for independence and successful adult outcomes. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
You will support youth aged 14-23 in transitioning to adulthood through the IL Program. Conduct needs assessments and creating individualized Independent Living Plans. Provide hands-on guidance to help youth develop life skills, education plans, employment strategies, and housing stability. Conduct visits with youth in various settings like their homes, foster homes, and schools, sometimes involving transportation. Manage a caseload with varying schedules and needs, which may require non-traditional hours. Maintain accurate records and reports of youth progress and program activities. Build rapport with youth, including those who may be challenging to engage, and modeling pro-social behaviors. Organize and facilitate life skills groups and community service activities. Attend court hearings and meetings with treatment providers and partners to support youth. Communicate effectively with youth, families, professionals, and the IL Coordinator through oral and written communication. Participate in ongoing training and staff meetings to enhance skills related to transition-aged youth and relevant topics.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
-
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 1-hour lunch.

Employee may have irregular hours, including evenings or weekends. Employees 37.5 hours (full time) per week, plus non traditional and on-call hours when required.

Employee may have overnight travel or out of County travel on a monthly basis.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
-
Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences;or
-
A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences;or
-
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.

Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
