THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Activities Specialist for the Department of Corrections, you will be responsible for organizing, instructing and supervising inmate programs, leisure time activities, inmate work crews and sports within your assigned institution. Within this role, you will be responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and teaching programs at all levels of interest and ability in the areas of sports, games, creative and performing arts, and social recreation. This position coaches or assists in the coaching of various sports such as basketball, soccer, power lifting, and demonstrates basic sports techniques and fitness equipment. You will have the opportunity to supervise inmate organizations and self help groups.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 40-hour work week Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55. QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor's degree with major course work in recreation and physical education; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:

Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. You must meet the PA residency requirement. For more information on ways to meet PA residency requirements, follow the link and click on Residency. You must be able to perform essential job functions.

You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
