Senior SRE Architect – Strategic Leadership Role
Position Summary
The Senior SRE Architect will lead the strategic implementation of Site Reliability Engineering across the enterprise. This role is responsible for defining the vision, roadmap, and execution strategy for SRE adoption, ensuring alignment with business goals, operational excellence, and modern engineering practices. The architect will collaborate with senior leadership, engineering teams, and operations to embed reliability, scalability, and automation into all aspects of the technology stack.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Vision
- Define and evangelize the SRE strategy across business units and technology domains.
- Establish goals for SRE adoption including observability, automation, error budgets, and incident response frameworks. Develop playbooks and architectural blueprints for SRE practices and tooling.
Architecture & Design
- Architect scalable, resilient, and secure systems using cloud-native and containerized technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform).
- Design and implement observability frameworks and telemetry pipelines using tools like Datadog, AppDynamics, or Prometheus. Lead the development of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) automation.
Governance & Transformation
- Drive organizational transformation by embedding SRE principles into DevOps and Agile workflows.
- Influence leadership to adopt modern software delivery models and reliability metrics (SLIs, SLOs, error budgets). Lead cross-functional teams to integrate SRE into application modernization and cloud migration efforts.
Operational Excellence
- Implement proactive monitoring, alerting, and incident management systems.
- Reduce toil through automation and self-healing systems. Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory standards.
Mentorship & Enablement
- Build and mentor high-performing SRE teams.
- Conduct workshops and training sessions to upskill engineering teams in SRE practices.
- Foster a culture of reliability, accountability, and continuous improvement.
You will be successful in this role if you have:
Key Qualifications, skills, and expertise
Strong verbal and written skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
Strong alliance to Google , AWS, Azure, and other progressive cloud/container vendors is a requirement.
Typically, 5-7+ years’ experience working in a presales or solution selling , preferably in the higher ed marketplace.
Understand, message and solution Cloud transformation s as part of sales pursuits.
Extensive experience in designing and implementing cloud-based solutions.
In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud IaaS and PaaS.
Proficiency in cloud architecture design principles and best practices.
Strong understanding of networking, security, and infrastructure components in the cloud.
Experience in preparing cost estimation for cloud solutions.
Experience with cloud migration strategies and tools.
Knowledge of networking technologies and cloud networking
Demonstrates strong knowledge across a wide range of services and solutions.
Understands CXO issues and solution alternatives and is comfortable interacting with them individually or as a part of a broader sales team.
Expert in emerging solutions, roadmap , and the business applications of technology.
Recognized thought leadership both internally and externally.
Expert knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of competitor products and services portfolio.
Recognized industry expertise and experience.
At least one Microsoft, CISCO, or Cloud certification credential
Certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, or Google Cloud Certified Architect are desirable.
CISSP or other security credential preferred.
First level and advanced university degree plus.
