Position SummaryThe Service Superintendent plays a critical leadership role within the service department by overseeing and optimizing field operations within an assigned geographic service zone. This position ensures high-quality service delivery, project execution, safety compliance, and technical excellence. As a primary liaison between field technicians, clients, coordinators, and internal teams, the Service Superintendent drives operational efficiency, fosters talent development, and ensures exceptional customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Technical Oversight- Provide real-time technical support and troubleshooting to field personnel.
- Oversee management and allocation of tools, vehicles, and equipment.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of service documentation and work orders.
- Identify and implement workflow and process improvements to increase operational efficiency.
- Serve as a technical liaison for escalated client interactions in coordination with Account Concierges.
- Ensure effective communication between technicians, service coordinators, and sales personnel.
- Collaborate with Sales Representatives on time and material estimates for complex repairs (e.g., chillers, large boilers).
- Actively recruit and evaluate skilled technicians through union halls, industry contacts, and online platforms.
- Conduct candidate interviews and assessments with focus on skills, reliability, and cultural fit.
- Support apprenticeship and mentorship programs to foster a strong talent pipeline.
- Partner with other Service Superintendents and leadership to plan and deliver technical training programs.
- Ensure all field staff remain up to date on required certifications and industry standards.
- Lead initiatives to identify and recruit high-level chiller and specialized system technicians.
- Oversee service projects within the assigned zone to ensure quality, efficiency, and profitability.
- Direct and coordinate daily technician activities to align with department goals.
- Manage project schedules and align labor/material resources for successful execution.
- Promote and enforce company and regulatory safety policies (OSHA, local codes, etc.).
- Conduct routine site audits and job hazard analyses.
- Investigate safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain high standards of quality assurance and client satisfaction.
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory or field leadership experience in HVAC service.
- Strong technical expertise in commercial HVAC systems, including chillers and boilers.
- Demonstrated ability to lead field teams and communicate across departments.
- Familiarity with safety regulations, building codes, and industry best practices.
- Experience in project management, estimating, and client relations preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
- Frequently travels between job sites and office locations within assigned territory.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in field conditions including rooftops, mechanical rooms, and varying weather environments.
- Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required for emergencies or project demands.
