Medication Technician Starting at $16.50/hr with pay based on experience.

Full Time, 7:00am-3:00pm, 3:00pm-11:00pm, 11:00pm-7:00am.

Eligible for shift differentials available for evening and overnights and a sign on bonus available for Full Time!

*Must have current Med Tech Certification*

Summary:

The Medication Technician is responsible for the management and administration of residents’ medications and treatments. They will also assist residents with daily living activities which may include but not limited to personal hygiene, dressing, dining and transporting needs.

Documents resident care as required. Communicates effectively with residents, family members, and staff. Assists other members of the nursing staff with duties related to the daily needs of the residents according to established standards

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  3. Promotes and supports a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.
  4. Management and administration of residents’ medications and treatments, including:
  5. Performing task associated with medication administration such as, vital signs, height, weight, glucose monitoring, and resident observation after administration.
  6. Assessing skin integrity, notify nurse of problem areas.
  7. Assist physician during rounds.
  8. Order and reorder medication when needed.
  9. Report drug errors to Manager and fill out proper documentation
  10. Assess resident during a fall or sickness. Assess if resident needs emergency services
  11. Fill out incident reports and contact Physician and Power of Attorney.
  12. Review and transcribe written physicians’ orders, upload to EMAR in absence of nurse
  13. Help with admission or readmission of a resident
  14. Complete requisitions and arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services as ordered by Physician.
  15. Cart audits, monthly recaps, and monthly reviews to be completed according to assigned shifts.
  16. Proper use and maintenance of narcotic count
  17. Notifying Physician of any changes to residents’ condition or if emergency services were needed.
  18. Assists with personal hygiene including dressing, bathing, shaving, dental hygiene, nail and hair care.
  19. Performs housekeeping tasks such as laundry, vacuuming, emptying trash, cleaning room, bed making, and bed changes
  20. Escorts residents and coordinates internal transportation needs.
  21. Observes/reports changes in residents’ physical and cognitive/emotional status to the nurse.
  22. Conducts room checks and resident rounds.
  23. Reports environmental safety hazards, records incidents, errors or accidents
  24. Assists in tasks relating to dining
  25. Participates in resident-centered activity programs.
  26. Responds to and acts appropriately in emergency or disaster situations.
  27. Works collaboratively with peers and other team members.
  28. Demonstrates an appreciation of the heritage, values, and wisdom of the residents and an understanding of the aging process.
  29. Recognizes and respects resident rights and maintains and protects resident and coworker confidentiality.
  30. Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent required.
  2. Previous resident care experience or related training preferred.
  3. Completion of PA Department of Human Services Medication Administration Training
  4. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CRPS) or First Aid Certification preferred but not required

Work Environment:

Employees of a long term care facility work in a resident care environment that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Employees can be expected to be exposed to unpleasant odors and may encounter physically or verbally aggressive residents.

Working conditions include normal indoor temperatures. There may also be times when employees perform duties outdoors. Depending on the season, outdoor temperatures will vary.

Employees may come into contact with residents who have infectious diseases or to resident bodily fluids or blood. In addition, employees may come into contact with hazardous materials and facility equipment.
