Position Overview
We’re looking for a smart, detail-oriented Drafting Technician to join our team. Your primary mission: deliver accurate, buildable shop drawings for architectural metal projects. You’ll work closely with project managers, engineers, and fabricators to turn creative concepts into real-world structures and features. Being a small company, many hats need to be worn, and this description is not fully comprehensive but is a basic outline of what will be expected.

Key Responsibilities

· Produce detailed shop drawings for custom metalwork—including railings, panels, stair components, decorative fixtures, structural supports — using predominantly AutoCAD (or equivalent) and interpreting architectural plans.

· Read and interpret architectural and structural drawings, project specs, notes and design intent.

· Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and the fabrication shop to identify and resolve design and constructability issues.

· Manage revisions: update drawings based on feedback, field changes, material/finish changes, or engineering direction.

· Maintain accurate drawing files, naming standards, revision tracking, and drawing libraries.

· Assist engineering/estimating team when needed with drafting support during pre-construction or value engineering phases.

Required Qualifications

· Minimum 5 years of experience in drafting for architectural metal fabrication, ornamental metals, metal stairs/railings, or similar.

· Proficient in AutoCAD; familiarity with SolidWorks, Revit or other 3D/parametric software is a plus.

· Strong understanding of metal fabrication details: joins, welds, metal finishes, tolerances, and installation interfaces.

· Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings (plans, elevations, sections), structural drawings, and shop drawings.

· High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Architecture or equivalent.

· Prior experience working with custom metal fabrication (architectural feature work, high end commercial interior work).

· Familiarity with metal fabrication and finishing processes (metal assemblies, decorative metalwork, specialty metal finishes).

· Proficiency using AI software to automate routine work and enhance productivity
